I opened my eyes.
"Man, that was a weird nightmare" I said to myself.
I looked around a bit, there was a big tv and the bed I was sleeping in was huge. It was like I was staying at one of them fancy hotels. Who put me here? I got up and walked to the door and suddenly someone kicked it down. The glass shattered as people started pouring through the windows. By the time I could figure out what was happening they were all around me. A man stepped forward. I looked him in the eyes. I don't know what's going on but I can't show fear. He was dressed in all black from head to toe with one arm in the air and the other on the trigger. His arm fell as the words "Open fire" came from him. I knew what that meant. My heart was pounding and I could feel myself begin to sweat.
"I don't wanna die. Not now. I haven't even gotten to live yet. I barely-" my thoughts kept running but my eyes were closed. Accepting my fate. Suddenly, my heart started pounding and my body began to heat up. Almost like in my dream, my body was about to catch on fire again but this time it wasn't painful. The men open fire on Damien. Letting off consecutive rounds so much so that the bullets seemed endless but their target remained still. One of the men stopped shooting as he spotted something the others hadn't caught onto yet. Everytime the bullets make contact with Damien's skin they disintegrate immediately. In the midst of being shot at, Damien opened his eyes to discover he hadn't suffered any injuries. He stood up and realized he was coated in an orange flame barely visible. The other men finally caught on and stopped shooting.
"What the hell is he?"
One of them asked as Damien began walking towards them.
"It's magic, load the anti magic rounds"
Another commanded.
"Anti magic rounds? What the hell? I thought I'd be invincible with magic. What should I do- oh that thing the lady did" I thought.
I placed my hand over the other and said the same words she did. "Rihai Mon" my body instantly felt sharp pains and that feeling I had before but it was way less than the first time. I can deal with this. The black aura consumed Damien and flooded the entire room. Some of the men's skin began to peel off and disappear before their very eyes, while others caught on fire but were unable to move because of the pressure of Damien's aura.
"How do you turn this thing off!?" I tried moving my hands but they're stuck. Not only that but my body is getting weaker.
"Well well ninõ, seems like yesterday wasn't a fluke after all." Miguel walked into the room saying.
"Don't come in, it'll kill you and I don't know how to turn it off" I told him.
"You don't need to turn it off, kid. Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a white room. Miguel replied.
I closed my eyes and imagined myself in a room with a huge tv, a comfortable bed filled with men whose skin was being removed. I mean, a lot was going on so trying to stop myself from thinking about it was hard.
"White room dammit!" Miguel commanded
"Ok I heard you!" I shout back
I took a deep breath despite the intense situation. I was finally able to picture that white room. My body was no longer in pain and for the first time in a while I felt… calm. Damien's overwhelming area regressed back into him.
"Now imagine that aura you had before flowing around your body."
Damien's body emitted a black flame
"Good. Good. You learn quickly" Miguel praised him as he walked towards him
Damien opened his eyes and his black aura completely dissipated
"You gotta stay calm to use your magic right. Otherwise.. Well you saw what happened. Come with me" Miguel instructed
Damien did as told. They walked down a hallway. The wall and floor are pure white making it easier for the light to illuminate the passage. Eventually they approach double doors that Miguel burst through. The scenery changed. Daimen looked around as people rushed from one place to another.
“What is this place?” I asked
“It’s not for you to worry about” Miguel told me as he continued moving forward
It wasn’t much longer till they made it out of the facility. Damien looked at the vast green land with perfectly trimmed grass beyond him.
“This is where your training will take place.” Miguel stated
Miguel noticed Lidia walking towards them
“Justo a tiempo, sra Lidia. You're better at this than I am. Will you explain the basics.” Miguel asked
“Very well. Yesterday I unlocked and unleashed your mana pool. It told us how much mana you got and what your infinities were. There's a more gentle way but someone isn't considerate" She said while eyeing Miguel.
"It's not like I knew his magic would be as wild as it was. Miguel said as his defense.
"What does he mean? No one else's is like that?" I asked.
Lidia opened her mouth but I could see the lie coming from a mile away
"Don't lie to me" I quickly told her. She thought before answering this time
"No. Most people can control their mana the second it's released. Even if they have a large quantity of it.
"quannniti-" I tried repeating the word to understand it.
"It means to have a lot of" Lidia told me.
"I knew what it meant" I snapped back
"Alright" she chuckled.
"You can cast your magic in a lot of ways. Spell circles, incantation, and emitt. Miguel if you will."
Miguel extended his arm to Damien. Moments later an orange circle housing 4 different shapes appeared under his feet
"Netzeh-Binam: lock down" Miguel said.
"Now, Damien, I want you to release your mana aura like you did earlier today" Lidia instructed.
"So white room?" I asked
"Yes, white room" she responded with a chuckle
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
"Control it, control it, control it, control it" I repeated to myself.
The black flames burst out of Damien but this time far more contained and controlled.
"Good, good. Now try to walk" Lidia encouraged.
"Try? Why's she acting like I can't walk? Will my magic go crazy again if I can't control it? Whatever. I'll just focus on controlling it while walking. Ok, remember, keep it stable aaaaaaand..” The moment I took a step, orange chains crossed my body and stopped me from moving. Not only that but my aura disappeared.
“What the hell?” I shouted. The chains got tighter, squeezing into my skin.
“Miguel” Lidia didn't need to elaborate
“He still hasn't learned his lesson” Miguel stood firm
“Miguel” She looked at him. He let out a sigh, then the chains got lighter.
"Hetzeh means to restrict and Binam means telepathy" Linda explained.
"Telepathy?" Damien asked, confused
"It means to interact with someone using your thoughts" Linda explained
"Miguel used restriction magic which works well with spell circles because the more refined, or less shapes in his circle, the stronger his spell is. Now sir Miguel if you'd do it another way." Linda requested. The chains disburse.
Miguel didn't move but his demeanor changed. His eyes narrowed in on Damien.
"This time there was no build up and no orange circle but I'm sure if I try to move again I won't be able to do it." I thought to myself
"Now Damien activate your aura again and try to move." Linda said.
"Ok" I replied.
Since I was getting used to the feeling it wasn't that hard to activate it again. I took a step expecting the same thing to happen but this time it was different. The orange chains popped up over my body again but my aura didn't disappear. My body feels heavier but I can still move. I took another step and the chains shattered.
"Because Miguel isn't as good with wordless spell casting, the same spell isn't as strong. That being said, he's still a prodigy. Most people can only use one casting type and it takes years for them to learn another one but sir Miguel can use 3 different ones" Lidia praised.
"Alright alright enough about me. You understand some of that didn't you?" Miguel asked
"Yeah I understood it" Damien confirmed
"Good, because as of today you'll be learning and developing your own spells but before that you need experience" Miguel lectured.
"What type of exper-" Damien was interrupted by a rubber bullet that hit his back.
"Let's go Lidia" Miguel commanded.
"You're not gonna-" Lidia snapped in a concerned manner but was cut off.
"He'll figure it out eventually, after all he's a street rat. He'll survive" Miguel waved off as he went back inside
Another shot went off but this one missed. Damien got up and ran but Lidia noticed something. The second bullet.. Wasn't rubber
