現在，袖切煙盒裡裝有捲菸，但過去它是用來裝有菸絲，用來作為菸管吸食的裝具，因此它與裝有菸絲和菸草的盒子分開存放。如果大正時期的母親要為孩子做筆袋帶到學校時，會把裝煙鬥的管袋子的開口縫起來，翻過來就變成一個圓柱形的袋子，就可以裝毛筆，長度剛剛好呢。

管架也是以同樣的方式製作的，將其倒置。
