Jamie Ballard really likes U.S. Marshal Angela Neumann. And why shouldn't she? Without Marshal Neumann's sniper ability, which saved her from the horrible hostage situation she found herself caught up in, she would probably not be alive.

But as far as Marshal Neumann, a German native, is concerned, she was just doing her job. Rejecting Jamie's advances—partly because she was very busy and partly because she found Jamie a little on the strange side—the two soon go their separate ways.

Jamie, being psychic and very intuitive, is invited to assist the police in certain cases to find missing people, particularly children.

Around this time, a steamy romance heats up between Jamie and a detective named Michelle Michaels, who had been on loan to the FBI. Then Jamie begins to see Angela around the Police Department a little more often after she’s been chasing criminals in other states and countries. In one particular instance, a small but noticeable earthquake erupts. Angela hovers over a terrified Jamie to protect her from falling debris. She then realizes she likes being close to Jamie, and the more she learns about who she is, the more she finds the quirky girl interesting. She soon comes to believe that she made a mistake in rejecting Jamie’s advances. The only problem is that now she is someone else’s lady…
