In this Arizona-based story with its lesbian lead characters, Sativa goes to jail for pulling a prank. She is sentenced to a month in a new jail with a unique setup for those serving short sentences like hers. In a hotel-like room with no more than one other inmate at a time—plus round-the-clock detention officers who actually reside in the room with them during their shift—Sativa ends up falling for Officer Kya Jackson. Officer Jackson falls for Sativa in return.
Upon Sativa’s release, Officer Jackson takes her to live with her on a 10-acre ranch in a rural town nearly an hour away. Life is wonderful at first, until Officer Jackson’s dark side emerges. The growing violence forces Sativa—now held captive inside the house—to plan an escape before she is seriously injured or killed.
When she finally breaks free, she runs for help at the house on an adjacent piece of land. There, she meets a Navajo reservation tribal policewoman, Raven, who helps her plan a permanent escape. They flee to Raven’s secret hideaway, a cabin in the woods of northern Arizona—yet it’s only a matter of time before they’re found!
