The next day, Uki comes visiting with a bouquet of dried lavenders. After a night of thinking, it was what he deemed to be most fitting.

“I’ve brought you some lavenders, they’re supposed to help you sleep better with their soothing properties. They’re dried so you don’t have to worry about them wilting.”
“Thank you, I feel more relaxed just by taking a whiff. I’ve heard they also help soothe pain when consumed.”
“Really? Then I should bring a you some edible ones next time and brew them into tea.”
“I appreciate it, but there’s no need of a bother. It’s not easy brewing tea in a hospital room after all.”

After Fulgur falls asleep once more, Uki sings the soothing spell again. Perhaps someday, the painkillers would be in effect; perhaps someday, he would no longer be tormented by this illness. But until then, for him he will keep singing this spell of comfort.

“You resemble lavenders. Has anyone ever told you that?”
“Is it because of my hair?”
“It’s your calming presence, and how my pain seems to ease whenever you’re here. An angel of lavenders, that’s what you are.”
“Thank you.” It’s the first time someone has ever said something like this.

Uki was at the end of the song when he heard movement coming from Fulgur.
“I’ve once heard a singing voice like yours.” Fulgur gradually opens his eyes as he speaks, there was no telling how long he has been awake for. The silver eyes focusing on Uki, soft, yet searching.
“Sorry, did I wake you?”
“No, do not worry.”
“You said that you’ve heard a singing voice like mine?”
“Yes, it reminds me of my savior.”
“Your savior?”
“Yes, but let’s leave his story for another time.” The softness on his face was slowly dyed with melancholy.
“What’s wrong? Why the long face?”
“It’s that I can no longer repay him, what can a man on his deathbed even do?” He lightly laughs, yet it was a sarcastic one, mocking his own inability.
“A lot, so much more than you think.”
“If you were that savior, what would you want? How would you want me to repay you?” Fulgur stares at him seriously. For a moment, Uki thought that the savior was him.
“Talk to me, that’s all I want.”
“Even if I don’t have much time left?”
“A day, an hour, ten minutes, the duration doesn’t matter. I just want to hear you say that you regret nothing, say that you’re happy. As long as saving you has its value, then that would be enough.”

“Do you believe in angels?”
“… Yes.” It’s a little hard not to when you are one of them. “You?” He returns the question.
“I do. Aren’t you an angel?”
Uki froze at the question, but only for a second before responding.
“Are you saying that I have a good soul? Thank you for the compliment, if so.”
“No, it’s not that. I’m saying that you’re a ‘real’ angel.”
“Then I’m going to take it as a compliment for my voice and looks.” Uki answers with a soft laugh.
“Your beauty and voice are both beautiful without a doubt, but I did spot you flying outside my window.”46Please respect copyright.PENANA03FNXWl7hi
Uki doesn’t remember anything about this. He hasn’t flown ever since he arrived to the Human Realm. He doesn’t know if the man was trying to trick him into answering, but he doesn’t want to take that risk. Multiple thoughts flew through his brain, but before he could even answer, Fulgur spoke.46Please respect copyright.PENANAbMxR5FMP0K
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell.” He says while doing a zipping motion.
“What do you want?”
“Someone to talk to, that’s all.”
“That’s it?”
“That’s it.” Fulgur’s answer raised confusion within Uki.
“Is it any different than what we do now?”
“No.”
“I thought you mortals would like some blessings, such as immortality.”
“You can alter life or death?”
“No.” And that is the truth. Even if he gave Fulgur a blessing, it would only give him enough luck to overcome this hurdle. It was never a token of eternal protection. He would have to face the other upcoming hardships himself, whether or not they be more difficult.
“I’ve thought so.” Fulgur’s tone was not of disappointment nor anger, but of a calmness as if he was expecting something of the sort.46Please respect copyright.PENANAhPAbhezsKy
“Do you wish that you could… live?”
“No, I don’t need to. Every moment of living is writing a story, where an opening is always followed by a close. It is now simply my turn to write it.”
