I woke up, gasping, terrified of my nightmare, and fumbled for the light switch. It didn't turn on.
The room remained dark and there wasn't a single sign of life to be seen, though I had the feeling that I was being watched.
I got up and tiptoed nervously to my Mom's bedroom. To my relief, she was there. It wasn't usual for her to be at home; her job took care of that. I sat down beside her and nudged her gently. The cold chilled me and goosebumps ran along my arm. I waited for her to open her eyes sleepily.
She didn't wake up.
"Mom?" I asked tentatively. "Are you awake?" I shook her frantically. The dark was getting to me, and I could swear that more pairs of eyes were staring at me from somewhere.
"Mom?"
She stirred. Her eyelids fluttered as I sighed in relief. She was awake. I wasn't alone.
Mom suddenly shot up from the bed and I scrambled back, crawling to the corner of the bed. Her fingers twitched. I gasped for breath. When she finally opened her eyes, I went still. They were red. Fiery red. Blood red.
I screamed.
