一位平凡無奇的高中生——維格，原本只是一個在角落默默生活的少年。他的生活規律而安靜，唯一讓他心跳加速的，便是暗戀對象——班上的韻心。某日，為了與她「偶遇」，他走進校園內常見的圖書館之中。
只是，他萬萬沒想到，這次的刻意，將徹底改變他的人生。

在圖書館內，一本不該存在的神秘書籍《原初》吸引了他的注意。書本散發出難以言喻的外貌和詭異，絕對是不該存在於常理之中的事物。

起初的維格還以為是自己的錯覺，是疲憊下的眼花。

然而越想越好奇的維格無法阻擋自身對於探究的慾望，返回校園內去想去接觸《原初》，那一刻起，世界發生了些微的變化，從那時起命運的齒輪便開始轉動。
在接觸《原初》後，各種神祕存在接連而來：瘋狂信奉不同神靈的狂教徒、擁有詭異能力的遺物持有者，以及表面維持秩序、實則冷酷殘忍的政府機構——異變組。維格只能從中生存並避免毀滅再各大勢力的漩渦之中。

起初，維格只想從這場混亂中脫身，回到他熟悉的平靜世界。然而，當他逐漸理解這世界的真相，當他親眼目睹人性背後的黑暗與真理深淵的模樣，他開始思考——若掌握這一切規則的，是他自己呢？

「一切都是命中註定的，當你了解之時，你也將被知曉。」源自遺物圖鑑。
