這是一本以第一次十字軍東征時期為背景的軍事小說。故事講述西元1096年，教皇烏爾班二世發動東征，聖殿騎士團成員傑弗羅瓦·德·蒙特勒依與摯友菲力浦·勒·奧達修加入遠征軍。傑弗羅瓦以卓越的邏輯推理能力主導戰術：在尼西亞圍城戰中識破突厥襲擾規律，於多利留姆戰役中率騎兵撕裂敵軍陣型，更在安條克圍城期間發現守軍密道，為破城關鍵。

菲力浦以精准弓箭掩護衝鋒，卻因感情用事屢陷險境；
艾莉諾爾·拉·菲爾斯作為聖殿騎士團唯一女騎士，以劍術和指揮才能屢立戰功，卻在安條克之戰暴露身份，面臨信仰質疑；
其妹伊莎貝爾以醫術對抗瘟疫與戰傷，在死亡邊緣挽救無數生命。
