Lonely, adj.; destitute of sympathetic or friendly companionship, intercourse, support, etc.

Frederick Chilton is a man who has known loneliness for the greater part of his life. And while the pang of it is familiar, he's come to accept it as a fact of life, cleaning the wound so it doesn't hurt anymore.

He finds a bit of that spirit in you. He takes it as a comfort, knowing someone else has endured what he has had to.

And perhaps that's why the both of you are drawn to one another, because it is the only way to avoid wallowing in that ever-present abyss of loneliness.
