Rin staggered, breathing hard.

His arm throbbed, veins flickering faintly gold.

Eli knelt beside him, eyes wide with worry.

“You’re not turning,” Eli whispered.

Rin looked at the veins crawling just to his elbow.

“I don’t know how long I have.”

P’In’s body twitched nearby, barely alive.

“You didn’t kill him,” Eli said.

Rin didn’t answer.

“I should have,” he finally muttered. “But I couldn’t.”

Eli looked at him for a long moment.

“…Even after everything?”

“I loved him once,” Rin whispered. “Maybe part of me still does.”

5:20 a.m. – Rooftop

Jet sat with his back against the railing, drenched in sweat, body steaming like it had been reborn in fire.

Tae held his hand tightly.

“You’re… not infected anymore?” Tae asked, almost afraid.

Jet looked down at his arm—normal.

Breath steady.

Heartbeat human.

“I think I burned it out.”

Tae blinked. “What?”

Jet smiled faintly. “Lada’s voice is gone. The hunger. Everything. I think I’m… cured.”

Tae stared at him like he was seeing a miracle.

Then tackled him in a hug.

“I love you, you stupid idiot.”

Jet laughed against his shoulder. “I love you too.”

5:22 a.m. – Basement Hallway

Sol, Mew, Eli, and Rin regrouped at the elevator shaft—

The Goldborn were regrouping.

Lada was still deep underground, waiting.

“We need to finish this,” Sol said.

“No,” Rin said, stepping forward.

Everyone looked at him.

“I need to finish it.”

5:30 a.m. – Gold Chamber – Sublevel 4

The chamber pulsed like a heart.

Lada stood at its center, arms raised.

She was more gold than human now—eyes glowing like stars, skin veined with divine fire.

“You came alone,” she said without turning.

Rin stood in the doorway.

“No one else needs to die for this,” he said.

“You’re wrong,” she whispered. “Everyone must.”

She turned to face him.

“You still don’t see it. This virus doesn’t kill. It elevates. It chose me. And now, it’s choosing you.”

“I didn’t come to join you,” Rin said quietly.

He raised a device—an old explosive charge from the shelter walls.

Lada tilted her head. “You’d die to stop me?”

“No,” Rin said.

“I’d live with it.”

He pressed the trigger.

The charge detonated near the core—

BOOM—

The golden heart of the virus ruptured.

Lada screamed.

Light erupted like a dying sun.

Rin was thrown backwards into darkness.

5:37 a.m. – Rooftop

Everyone saw it.

A blinding golden light blasted from the ground, shaking the entire school.

And then—

Silence.

Jet stood, staring down at the fire.

Tae whispered, “Was that…?”

Then Rin’s voice crackled through the walkie.

“I’m alive."

Everyone gasped.

6:15 a.m. – Front Gate – Dawn

The Thai military finally arrived.

Guns. Medics. Walls of men in gas masks.

But they didn’t need to storm the school.

Because the survivors were already walking out.

Rin, covered in ash, gold veins now faded.

Jet, weak but human.

Tae, holding his hand.

Sol and Mew.

Eli, still a mystery.

No more Goldborn.

No more Lada.

Just six boys who had survived hell.

One Week Later – Hospital Recovery Camp

Tae and Jet lay in side-by-side beds, holding hands under the covers.

“I still hear the wind on that roof,” Jet whispered.

“I still remember the way you looked when I thought I lost you,” Tae said.

Jet turned to him.

“But we’re here.”

Tae smiled. “Yeah. We’re here.”

Rin sat by the window, staring at the horizon.

Sol knocked softly.

“You okay?”

Rin nodded.

“I saw P’In in my dreams last night,” he said. “But this time… he said goodbye.”

Sol sat beside him.

“Closure?”

“Something like that.”

Then Sol handed him a photo.

All of them. Together

. Alive.

Before.

“Whatever comes next,” Sol said, “we live.”
