The wind howled outside the window. It hadn't waken up Emery at first, she was too far gone in her own little world next to Cassian to even try and think. She was safe here, asleep, knowing that if anything happened he'd be by her side. She hoped he felt the same, safe and unbothered. She was dreaming something she didn't want to wake up from. Cassian shifted next to her, the absence of heat making her shiver slightly. She opened her eyes, the world coming into focus slightly. Cassian was sitting at the edge of the bed, his face in his hands. Emery sat up, looking over at him. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAWCE3zVhyYk
"Cassian?" She mumbled, rubbing her eyes. He looked up, and over his shoulder. Cassian gave a tired smile, she narrowed her eyes trying to see his face in the darkness, she knew he smiled but she could only see the subtle movement of his mouth moving upwards. 84Please respect copyright.PENANA7zqjLBZmH3
"Yes, love?" 84Please respect copyright.PENANAFOI5q7kRpg
"Where are you going?" She asked, rubbing her eyes. Her hand came up to move hair out of her face, her body moving to sit next to Cassian. He looked at her, bringing a hand to cup her jaw and moving her face towards him. He kissed her, slow, gentle. As if the world around them was nothing, he kissed her as if her lips were air. Emery melted into the kiss, scooting closer. 84Please respect copyright.PENANARCRIIzywCE
"I'm not going anywhere, I just couldn't sleep." He whispered against her lips. She nodded, pulling away just enough to look him in the eyes. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAslTEN6yj1t
"Can we stay like this a little longer?" She asked, her voice barely above a whisper, but enough for him to hear. He nodded, and leaned in again. The wind rattled outside, louder than ever. Emery placed her hand on his shoulder, they fell back onto the bed. Cassian leaned on his right elbow as support to hold him up, Emery's leg move to the side of his waist, pulling him closer. 84Please respect copyright.PENANApMaFrE62Vr
"We shouldn't be doing this." He groaned, even as his hands gripped her hips tighter, as if letting go would ruin this moment whole. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAd0zNUxs9Ql
"Why is that?" She said, as he pushed her more into the mattress, dipping beneath them. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAzfRG6TZYQw
"We're drifting away from the main point, don't you think?" He said, his lips traveling down her jaw, to the base of her neck. She closed her eyes, and shook her head. She didn't care if they were going against the main point of what they had. It didn't matter anymore, not when they were already doing this. She let out a soft whimper when he bit down on her shoulder, she felt as his mouth curled up in that smirk she knew. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAv2scDkILqh
"Does it even matter anymore? I don't care if we're drifting away from the deal, I want you more than what I've ever wanted anything in my life. Is that so much to ask?" She said, moving them, as she straddled him. His hands moved to her hips, as he looked up at her. His back hit the headboard of the bed. 84Please respect copyright.PENANArRchZ952C7
"It's not too much to ask for, little ghost. But what if in the end something goes wrong, and we can't be together? I want you too, need you to be mine. But I can't risk you getting hurt." He cradled her face in his hands, his thumb stroking the skin of her cheekbones softly. She sighed, and leaned her forehead against his. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAfQczyFbuMz
"Fine, but if you want me the same way I do. Let's just stay in this moment, for a little longer." And they kissed again, just two souls colliding. The world for them didn't exist again, just two mouths and one love. Nothing else.
Morning came faster than expected, the bliss from that night a blur now. Emery woke up the smell of breakfast coming from the kitchen. She stood up, fixing her hair. Her feet guided her to the kitchen where Cassian was cooking, his hair that perfect amount of messy she loved, sweatpants handing a bit low. He looked over his shoulder and smiled. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAJhulGAvQKL
"Morning, sleep well?" He asked, turning off the stove. She nodded, sitting at the kitchen island. He placed a plate in front of her, toast, eggs, and fruit. He had made hot cocoa just for her as well. 84Please respect copyright.PENANA00YCifH2d8
"Thanks, Cassian." She mumbled, and as a welcome he pecked her cheek. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAhtCOiw34Bq
"I'm off to take a shower, and after that you can go take a shower. We have a big day today." He said, and closed the bathroom door. She ate in silence, thinking of how he had kissed her last night, she smiled to herself. The wind picked up outside, she looked out the window, the mist had grown small, but she could see a tiny bit of mist picking up again in the horizon. The thing about Willows' End that no one tells you is that it's cursed. Not the typical cursed you think, Willows' End had been made into bed time stories for children. It was believed a myth. And of course, people thought that Willows' End was filled with freaks. 84Please respect copyright.PENANARnhJE6vODG
Emery knew better than to believe those stories were true. She lived there, nobody was a freak. The point is, the mist only appears in Willows End, at least the magnitude of it does. She's never looked at the charts of how much fog appears in Maine. But she knows that Willows End is packed with it, all year round since it was founded. It wasn't until Cassian came into frame that she sort of believed the myths of their own hometown. Maybe it was right after they saw the mist weavers or was it keepers? She didn't dare to remember. The day they were in the cave was when she realized that maybe the town was cursed. But yet again, she knew not to believe in silly ghost stories people made up. 84Please respect copyright.PENANA0zP4uaMtxt
"Little ghost, could you bring me the shampoo bottle I left in my suitcase please?" Cassian yelled, Emery stood up and went to his suitcase opening it and grabbing the bottle, she walked into the bathroom. The steam encircled her, and she handed him the bottle.84Please respect copyright.PENANAQuxO4Lapy9
"Here, also the mist is growing again. It looks as if it's coming this way, to Portland." She said, leaning against the sink. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAlx5PP6pUCb
"That's weird, the mist always stays back at home no matter what, right?" He said from the other side of the curtain, Emery nodded. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAzYkEfwtxLZ
"Yeah, that is weird. But anyway, I'll be in the room if you need anything." She walked out, closing the door. Cassian's suitcase was still open, her first instinct was to close it of course. That's what everyone would do. But then she noticed a small leather journal right above his jeans. She raised a brow, she shouldn't grab it. But damn was it tempting. Her hand reached out, slow, cautious.
Emery sat back on the bed, opening it to a random page. Cassian's handwriting in this page was quick, messy, as if he had been in a rush to finish it. She read it carefully, as if she was afraid the words might jump out and haunt her forever.

This shouldn't be happening, I know it shouldn't. But father won't let me drop it now. Ian Kane, innocent and young. For some reason, the Covenant wanted him to be the next sacrifice. And of course as my duty, I went into the afterlight to get the judgement. As always, I end up getting my final answer from Minerva. She basically raised me when no one else did. But it doesn't seem right, it feels like I'm betraying something I never even swore to stay loyal to. To her... Emery, the girl I met eyes with once. Maybe she doesn't remember me, but at least I know that I'll have to get her to trust me even if it means betraying her to keep her safe. At least Ian knows the person closest to her, Har-
The bathroom door opens before she can finish reading. Her heart is in her stomach, he's known. He's part of Covenant, he knows about everything. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAyw3u4C3XTm
"Little ghost, is everything okay?" He asked, looking at her with genuine concern, and confusion. She froze, gladly her back was turned to him, she closed the journal and nodded. 84Please respect copyright.PENANA3AE8uqK535
"Yeah, I'm fine. Never been better." She said, her voice strained. He walked over to her, blinking at the sight of his journal in her hands. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAKwDdb93IYJ
"How much did you read?"84Please respect copyright.PENANAMfof7gtq2z
"Oh nothing too important. Just some random short stories I found." She smiles, trying to mask what she actually felt. Cassian nodded, grabbing the journal and tucking it back into the suitcase. This was too risky, Emery was panicking internally. Today was supposed to be special, they'd go out on a date for the Fourth Of July with Jules, but now she didn't know if she could even look him in the eyes. But for now, all she had to do was push all those feelings away. 84Please respect copyright.PENANA5PPAXshd5y

And there's nothing in the world that she would trade for it to be any other way. Emery stood up, slowly. Her legs a bit wobbly as she did, her heart still in that pit in her stomach. 84Please respect copyright.PENANAunA9M5xxIT
"I'll go take a shower now." She said, walking to the bathroom. As she entered she turned the water, the warmth of it washing away some of her nervousness. She'd find a way to confront him. Just not yet...
