"Who were they?"258Please respect copyright.PENANA69nSHOsA81

That was the question plaguing my brain as I sat downstairs, as I sat with my breakfast. My parents had long since left for work, and I had already missed the bus, so there was no need to hurry.
"Who are they.... don't let them know... who are they... you can see..."
The endless monologue haunted me as I stared at the blank walls. No windows, no photos, no lamps... all the things I could vaguely remember from childhood were now gone, taken away as they became frivolous items, unnecessary luxuries in a blind world.

The words didn't stop as I left the house. Who were they?! The mother, pushing her child in a perambulator, holding tight to a guide-rail to keep from falling into the road? The man with the briefcase, fumbling for the doorhandle of a nearby shop? The group of people hovering around a storyteller with excitement on their faces, but dull eyes?

"GO AWAY!" I yelled at my brain, as I entered the normally bustling clubhouse for the children and teens in the neighborhood. As everyone was at school, it was empty. The thoughts followed me to the couch of cracked leather, through the realization that I was truly alone, though my first meet up with Pure Fear and New Depression, and finally to the Land of Nod, as I cried myself to sleep. 258Please respect copyright.PENANAf8MiVCyxgk

The figure on the rooftop shifted, until they could sit comfortably on the hard shingles. The sky was dark, but dotted with a million shining flecks. It was as if someone had thrown glitter across the cosmos. The valley below the farmhouse was quiet, the stillness broken only by the occasional screech of an owl. 258Please respect copyright.PENANADrRVbaM5YQ

And the figure watched, silently, as the world put itself to bed, and wondered how she would be able to leave this life for the city.258Please respect copyright.PENANAFn0W0d1c1W

The corn blew gently in the wind, the cows lowed softly to each other, the sheep huddled together for warmth, and the girl watched. 258Please respect copyright.PENANAY5BtHTAMWN

I wake up to the afterschool rush, children bursting through the doors, joking and pushing and cussing. I observed, quietly sitting in the corner. And when you have no friends, you're out of the way, and everyone is blind... well, if you don't speak, you get a sort of superpower. You become invisible.258Please respect copyright.PENANAQW2x9WyNBK

And so I sat there, invisible, watching my classmates jest. I sat there, calm and composed, as the delayed realization that no one here would believe my story, hit me. I sat there, a silent sentry in a earth full of fools, and had it not been for the warning- or was it a threat? - looming over my head, I should have felt like God.258Please respect copyright.PENANAS6uwnRQJmF

I returned to my room late, filled with queries, and I gazed once more at the message on the walls. Who were the "they" it spoke of? Who had written the message in the first place? How did they know I could see? Why could I see? But perhaps I could recieve a few answers now, for on the floor near the opposite wall sat two people, a bag of red and green... things between them, and several of my books, scattered around them. The Hunger Games, I guessed by the size, unable to feel the Braile on the spines of covers. 258Please respect copyright.PENANALhAch3bXi2

"Took you long enough." One of them said, laughing. They had an accent, though we got so little tourists in our city I couldn't tell from where she came. 258Please respect copyright.PENANAa6iXJIwf2h

"It's only been a day for him." The other one muttered, not looking up from her book. She had the same accent, not Scottish... what was it?
"I beg pardon, but who are you and why are you in my room?" I demanded, to exhausted to even care, sinking onto my desk chair. 258Please respect copyright.PENANAEW33a2OSYU

"Oh, yeah." The first one, (the ginger one) said, brushing it off. "I'm myself, my name isn't important. But you can call me Cedar. She's Juno, to you."258Please respect copyright.PENANA3C7Sl0zfGp

"What do you mean your name isn't important? And why are you in my room?!" I whisper-screamed back, in the off-chance the house was no longer empty. 258Please respect copyright.PENANAqVNoAJgNbZ

"Don't worry, your parents aren't back yet. And we're here to offer you a proposition." The one I'd been told to call 'Cedar" responded, with no small amount of amusement. They were of average height, maybe a bit on the short side, with, as noted, ginger hair. The one called 'Juno' had darker hair, but as she was sitting, I couldn't tell her height.

"A proposition? Are you a walking dictionary? And for goodness' sake, I'm 15, you don't look much older, what sort of 'proposition' can have anything to do with me?" I flopped back onto the bed, shoving the pillow onto my face. 258Please respect copyright.PENANA36HOX0jo56

"You're a jolly one. If you want your sight taken back, be our guest. We were simply going to ask if you wanted to help those idiots see again, damn." Juno spoke up, standing. 258Please respect copyright.PENANAVoXyj2E34L
