A Girl's Confusion

As a girl child, I am told what to be,

Girly, pink and should act pretty.

I disagreed and was called a tomboy,

Some girls disliked me, and some saw me as a toy.

I made a mistake, and the whispers grew,

Their judging eyes followed wherever I flew.

They whispered in the shadows, my esteem fell deep;

I almost broke down, wanting to weep.

I couldn't understand -- why couldn't they ask?

Instead, they acted differently, not a friend in that mask.

I had been in a similar situation before;

They used me, ruined my trust and more.

To them, I am still a girl, judged for my choice,

I was sad, gradually losing my voice.

But now I am confused, should I stay in my shell or show what I am like?

Not something as easy as riding a bike.

Thankfully, wise words led my way,

Helping me rise above the fray.

Keeping my distance set me free;

So I could carve out a path just for me,

And to finally escape this catastrophe.
