The moment I opened the back door of the inn, something soft pounced onto my face. "Meow." It was a cat. No, it was a yokai cat, glowing white all over, with three tails and a small teapot collar. It lazily rubbed against my face, then unceremoniously jumped into my arms, making itself comfortable as if I were its servant. "Who are you...?" "I am Tea Cat," it yawned. "There used to be a tea room just for me here, but no one has made tea for me for hundreds of years, so I... got stuck." It opened one eye, round and shiny, and looked at me. "You're the new innkeeper, right? Then let me ask you—can you make tea?" I looked down at it, suddenly feeling that this yokai's question was more troublesome than the river god I had encountered before. "What kind of tea do you want to drink?" "The kind that makes you feel good." ...I thought for a moment and brewed a pot of osmanthus oolong that my father had left behind. The moment the tea fragrance wafted out, the cat yokai seemed to be switched on, all three of its tails wagging together. It lay comfortably on the table, eyes half-closed, ears twitching slightly, looking like it was about to ascend to heaven. "You don't just know how to make tea," it said, "you also have a quality that makes people want to stay." "You're talking about..." I looked at it suspiciously. "Innkeeper aura. You are naturally suited to taking care of yokai with too many worries. That's why a neglected tea cat like me would specifically come out to test you." "So you came to test if I could handle the job?" "No, I came to freeload tea." I wordlessly held my forehead. But that afternoon sunlight streamed in through the old windows, shining on the wooden table filled with tea fragrance. The slightly arrogant three-tailed tea cat slept in my arms, and I sat quietly, listening to its soft breathing, suddenly feeling... this inn seemed genuinely gentle. Perhaps this was the beginning of its unresolved knot, and also the most relaxing moment of my day.283Please respect copyright.PENANAXPo5rAvG9S
