中國古代很有名的小說，都有一首卷頭詩。

像是《紅樓夢》「滿紙荒唐言，一把辛酸淚，都云作者癡，誰解其中味？」

《三國演義》「滾滾長江東逝水，浪花淘盡英雄。 是非成敗轉頭空，青山依舊在，幾度夕陽紅？白髮漁樵江渚上，慣看秋月春風。 一壺濁酒喜相逢，古今多少事，都付笑談中。」

《水滸傳》「紛紛五代亂離間，一旦雲開復見天。草木百年新雨露，車書萬里舊江山。尋常巷陌陳羅綺，幾處樓臺奏管絃。人樂太平無事日，鶯花無限日高眠。」
