Christopher would asked questions to his father and wibert would make up answers to him. he would name the engines Edward Henry and Gordon. the would make a wooden model of Edward . he tried to make one of Gordon but due to limited supplies he instead made a tank engine called Thomas . the original Thomas model looked like this pretty different right.
Anyway Wilberts wife then asked Wilbert to write a book on the story's and after much back and forth he agreed. he would right the first book of the railway series, named Three Railway Engines. the book would tell the stories of Edward gordon and henry , the first stories included : edward's day out , Edward and Gordon , the sad story of henry and Edward Gordon and Henry . the book would see success and wibert would right the second book , named Thomas the tank engine. Wilbert would always keep the books accurate to each other, making sure continuity was the same in each book. as awdry wrote more books , he would name the book series , the railway series. the book series talked about the island of sodor's northwestern railway and its engines. in 1952 , awdry would volunteer at the narrow gauge tallyllyn railway in Wales . it was one of the first preseverd railways. while working there Wilbert would get the idea of writing about narrow gauge railway in the railways series . the book titled the four little engines was the first book to take place in the narrow gauge railway, called the skarloey railway. awdrys books were worded so people of all ages could enjoy them. the books had wording so that the aluts reading to there kid could enjoy them too. Wilbert knew that kids were smarter than most adults thought. he never outright told the moral of the story and used more complex words than other kids books
wibert soon retired in 1972 with his final book published, named Tramway engines. his son christopher awdry then wrote the rest of the series. he would write 16 more books and finished the book series in 2011 with the book Thomas and His Friends. However Wilbertnever saw the end of his books as he died in his sleep on 1997 at the age of 85. his books will be remember forever and they have impacted the lives of many children.
