在很久很久以前，靈氣旺盛的時代，人族與非人生活於同一片土地上，雖稱不上和睦共處，尚能算是比鄰而居。

一位皇帝癡迷於長生之術，聽信邪道所言，下令狩獵有特異之能的非人。

非人從此被冠以妖怪之稱，人們開啟了獵妖的時代，許多非人被挖心剖肝，端上餐桌、摻入丹方，淪為材料。

開明神獸不忍同類遭遇，毀棄諾言，離開牠所鎮守的天門，帶著倖存的同胞與不願和邪道同流合污的道人，遠渡重洋、跨越天險，最終抵達了一座世外島嶼。

此島有山林溪流，資源富足且四季分明，堪比桃源。

他們選擇落居於這座島嶼，毀棄與皇室諾言的開明神獸重傷難支，在聽到同胞的決定後，終於咽下最後一口氣，安心瞑目。

非人與道人將開明神獸安葬於島嶼腹地，道人以神獸之墓為中心建設居處，而嚮往山野的非人則散入深山林間，雙方達成了和平共處的協定。

不久之後，皇帝與邪道皆亡，改朝換代，獵妖的時代過去，大陸的人們開始探索陸地以外的世界。

遠渡重洋、跨越天險的船隻來到了世外島嶼，他們震驚於此地潛伏著的強大非人，又讚嘆著島嶼的山靈水秀。

在發生數次衝突後，島嶼有了名字，而為了保護島嶼和非人們，原來日出而作、日落而息的道人蓋起了一座宮廟，再次團結。

此島名為臨淵。

宮廟名為陸家宮。

這，便是故事的起始。
