Alex sat in their favorite corner of Brewed Awakenings, a cozy coffee shop, completely absorbed in a romance novel. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the soft chatter of patrons created the perfect Saturday afternoon vibe. They were so engrossed in the story that they didn’t notice someone approaching until it was too late.
“Excuse me, is this seat taken?” a voice asked.

“Thanks,” the person replied, setting down the tray. But as they did, one of the cups tipped over, spilling coffee all over Alex’s book and lap.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry!” the person exclaimed, grabbing napkins and frantically trying to blot the mess.
Alex stood up quickly, feeling the hot liquid seep through their clothes. “It’s alright,” they said, trying to stay calm despite the damp annoyance.
“Here, let me help,” the person insisted, handing Alex more napkins. “I’m Jamie, by the way.”
“Alex,” they replied, taking the napkins and dabbing at their jeans.
Jamie looked mortified. “I can’t believe I did that. Let me buy you another drink to make up for it.”
Alex hesitated, but Jamie’s genuine, apologetic smile won them over. “Okay, sure.”

Alex chuckled. “It’s a romance novel. Love in the Time of Lattes.”
Jamie grinned. “Perfect for a coffee shop! I’m more into sci-fi, but I love a good romance too.”
They chatted about books, movies, and their shared passion for indie music. Alex found themselves warming up to Jamie’s easygoing charm, despite the shaky start.
When their drinks arrived, Jamie handed Alex their cup. “Here you go. No spills this time, I promise.”
Alex smiled. “Thanks.”
They sat back down, and the conversation flowed effortlessly. Jamie mentioned they were a musician who played guitar at the coffee shop on weekends. “You should come see me perform sometime,” Jamie said, their brown eyes twinkling.
“I’d like that,” Alex replied, feeling a flutter of excitement. But then, reality hit. “Actually, I won’t be around much longer. I’m moving to Seattle next week for a job.”
Jamie’s face fell. “Oh, that’s too bad. Congrats on the job, though! Still…”
“Yeah,” Alex said, a pang of regret tugging at them. “It’s a great opportunity, but I’ll miss this place.”
“And the people?” Jamie teased, leaning forward slightly.
Alex blushed. “Definitely.”

As they leaned in for a kiss, the barista called out, “Closing time!”
They laughed, gathered their things, and stepped into the cool night air. Under the streetlights, Jamie pulled Alex close. “I’m going to miss you,” they whispered.
