Love in unexpected places

Anywhere and everywhere is unexpected when you believe

You’re undeserving of love

You get nothing, you lose

A truth revealed may be the

Surprising yet simple reality that you are not unloveable

The abandoned building has spider courtship in its corners

The suburban woodland houses bobcats that feed on rabbits

Which, well, breed like, you know, rabbits

And they are solitary polygamous animals

Wherein a male may have five females with smaller territories

Inside its larger territory, inside a neighborhood

humans wrongly assume

Is their territory. Love in unexpected places indeed

And you have audacity to believe yourself unloveable?

You, a human, with the capacity to habituate wild animals, to

Adopt feral strays, to write poetry, to be a million possibilities?

A truth revealed is that love is

not just about us, about intimate relationships

But also the relationship between us and reality,

other lives, other realms

We can love without being loved, we can weave meaning

out of and into everyday encounters.

None of this is real, not love nor society, not productivity nor how it

creates and perpetuates

Shame around failure.

Failure is natural, is nature, is everywhere.
