Being immortal was amazing. Being able to live without a care in the world of when you're eventually going to die. Well, that was my life, waking up and doing the same old thing every single day for as long as I can remember. The same old creaky bed I could never be bothered to replace, the same tattered old slippers that slid around my feet every single morning as I started the day like every other. However, the one way in which my dull, monotonous life was different was the diverse ways in which I tried to die.
Whether it be the cold brink of arsenic or the long plunge off a cliff, I tried it all, every possible thing you could think of, and somehow, I managed to survive with only the evidence of a bad bruise and an occasional headache. Each day was like a VHS tape, going on repeat over and over and over again.
Until today, it was the same alarm clock that blared in my ears, however it was the different sound of rain that threw me off my guard. In my small, tiny town it hardly ever rained. The dry, cracked ground walls, perfect evidence of the usual sunny climate as well as the dead, decaying bushes and the bland, beige trees that seemed to hardly sway in the wind anymore like they used to. Now whenever they swayed you could only hear the cracking of twigs and branches. But nonetheless I pushed the thought to the back of my cluttered mind and sought to think about the new way i could test my immortality.
Every single way now seemed like a boring idea, like the idea of falling off a steep, intimidating cliff or drowning in an ocean of darkness and coldness didn't seem exciting enough. Still pondering I decided to walk around the vast land, to see even the smallest thing that seemed like an interesting way to die.
The creaky floorboards made noise behind me like they did every single day, this old house seemed to creak with every touch. Every creak a constant reminder just how long you've been living. Suddenly my foot caught on the edge of one of the old floorboards, sending (1)
Me flying across the living room until I finally landed on the floor, my chest heaving against the floor.
However, the foreign sense of pain spread throughout my neck, like a burning feeling. As I lifted my head from the floor, I felt a searing pain in my neck followed by the feeling of something dripping, not dripping but instead now pouring. My eyes looked down to see the pool of warm, crimson blood sinking into the floorboards. My hands scrambled for my throat and instead met the cool, silver base of a nail covered in blood. I was bleeding. That was impossible I hadn't bled for centuries. No, I wasn't bleeding. I was dying. The blood soon mixed with tears as I sobbed, my throat almost burning as I lay there with the life almost draining out of me with every ounce of blood. My eyes began to blur with tears as each breath grew harder to duplicate. The pain seemed almost numb as my skin began to stain to blood. The world had finally caught up to my careless actions as my conscience began to slip, breathless gurgles were the only sound made throughout the house. Muffled underneath the morning rain until finally after all my suffering, everything went black.
