“Surface dwellers?” Queen Aquaria frowned. “What do they want?”
“They mean to attack,” the messenger replied.
Marina’s stomach churned. “What can we do?”
The queen turned to her. “We must defend ourselves. Marina, your fire could be our best weapon.”

The other ships hesitated, their crews shouting in panic, then turned back, fleeing the wrath of the fiery mermaid. Cheers erupted from the Coral Kingdom as the threat vanished beyond the horizon.
“You did it, Marina!” Coralia cried, swimming to her side. “You saved us!”
“I couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support,” Marina said, breathless but smiling.
Queen Aquaria approached, her gaze warm. “You have proven yourself, Marina. You are a true protector of the Coral Kingdom.”
