諸神原以為之後世界的發展會逐漸安定下來,卻沒想到暗地裡有些人策劃了一 場「屠龍戰爭」,原因是為了珍貴的龍角，以及想看看龍死後會不會留下和魔物一 樣的魔核或更值錢的東西。龍族忽遭人類偷襲又沒事先防備而被屠殺不少,憤怒的龍族決定不再守護人類,紛紛飛往世界的西南或地底高山等人煙稀少處 ,從此消聲匿跡。並且,為了報復人類, 龍族對一些普通人類下了詛咒（當時稱 「鬼狂」的傳染病),得了詛咒的人頭上會長出雙角使其狂化,身上的紋路(鬼紋) 是弱點,狂化者完全不受理智控制會發了瘋似地殺人,人類因此恐懼他們會滅亡人族而開始對得了詛咒的人趕盡殺絕,並稱他們為「鬼」,後來那些「鬼」 之中有人找到了抑制狂化的方法「銘緒」（同時也是現在鬼族所使用的能力） ,帶著所有被人類追殺的「鬼」逃到海外的群島「鶴流」躲了起來,此為鬼族由來。
