"Why did you do it Kyle?"
"What made you do it?"
I was there; staring at my twin brother's dead body placed in front of me in a body bag, with thoughts flooding my mind. I was brought back into this haunting realm with a tyre screech.
It was Vara and Winnie.
I rushed forth to her, and as I hugged her tightly I felt my worries start to fade. She was my solace, the one person who could calm the storm inside me. My ravaging soul began to subside. Her slender arms wrapped around me, holding me close as I buried my face in her neck. For a moment everything else disappeared and all that mattered was her.
But as she gently pulled back, her gray eyes met mine, her eyes betrayed a flicker of concern that wasn't meant for me.
"Are you alright, Ray?", her voice strained, her words trembling with a mix of empathy and unease.
She carried weight of unspoken words. I felt the tension in her body, the way her muscles seemed to vibrate with an unspoken urgency. It was something that was bothering her.
I nodded, trying to reassure her, but she saw right through me. Her eyes narrowed, probing the depths of my soul as if searching for some hidden truth.
"I'm so sorry about Kyle", she whispered. Her voice cracking beneath the weight of her emotions. I felt a pang in my chest, a dull ache that seemed to echo through every cell of my being.
"Vara, you shouldn't be here. You need to go".
"Raylan?"
"Vara, you're not well. I told Winnie not to....."
"She didn't say anything. I forced her to come here".
She didn't let me finish.
"I wanted to check on you, Ray".
"I'm okay Vara, I'm alright".
"Raylan! Why are you pushing me off?"
"Vara you're important to me. That is why you need to go from here, please!"
