Poetry in Response - The Circus From a Spectator's Point of View

(This is a response poem to the book Animal Farm by George Orwell.)

So, so long ago,

but I suppose not so long,

a situation occurred,

but they always do.

What I just said was true,

things often happen,

but not like this.

This is

and was

significant.

So, not long ago,

but I suppose very long,

a situation occurred.

It triggered a certain author,

to lift his pen,

and write about it.

As authors often do.

But as many things we know,

this specific action,

was very

significant.

The situation, based off of foreign life,

animals, even,

no democracy,

is now the head of

democracy,

not-so-foreign life,

and most importantly,

human beings.

A pig,

can be compared to another pig we know,

but the other pig

is a man.

All animals are equal,

but some are more equal than others.

God, I wish

that the author I speak about,

could see the world of today.

He could write another book,

make everyone wake up again.

But then it would just

get banned.

So maybe it's for the best.

After all,

who would read a book titled

"you're an idiot"?

Well, that's what Animal Farm was, I guess.

About a foreign place.

In the nineteen-forties.

And now,

on the ground we stand on,

2024,

as a spectator of that circus,

I can honestly say that it's the same.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.
