At around 3 in the morning, I was awoken by the sound of someone knocking on my door. I rolled over and noticed that my wife wasn't in bed with me.
Yawning I put on my glasses and began to walk downstairs towards the front door. Wondering who the hell could be knocking at such an hour.
I got an uneasy feeling from this thought and figured I would look through the peephole before opening the door. After all, where I live is pretty secluded, and who knows what kind of messed up people could be around.
When I looked through the peephole, I felt a surge of shock flow through my body. It was my wife. She stared at the door with a confused look on her face. Her mouth was slightly agape, and I could see spit around her lips. Illuminated by the moonlight, her skin was ghostly pale, and she was covered in bruises and cuts.
It was then that I noticed she was staring back at me through the peephole.
I wasn't confused as to why she was standing here. I was confused and scared as to why she was anywhere.
