2. The rejection.

Rest of the weekend passed by uneventfully. I’d been saved by my father after my fiasco with David; as he’d called to introduce him to someone. David had left, giving me a lazy smile and I had face- palmed myself. Literally.

Next morning, he had left with my father to god knows where and thankfully; I didn’t have to face him. But for some silly reason I couldn’t stop myself from asking my mother about him as we had breakfast.

“Off to some work, I guess.” She replied without looking up from her newspaper.
I knew I wasn’t going to get an elaborated answer so I quickly finished my milk and left for school.

School went by uneventfully as none of my friends (a total two of them) knew what had transpired at the party on Saturday night.
“Are you all right?” asked Alex, as the final bell rang.
“Yes.” I answered. “Why?” I asked.
“Nothing. You just seemed so quiet since morning. That’s why.” He said.
“I always speak less Alex.”I said to him, smiling now.
Alex exchanged a glance with my other best friend Kayla. “Ok… well, we just want you to know that we are always here for you.” Said Kayla.
“I know that, silly.” I said to her, silently thanking God for such good friends who I knew would stand by me no matter what. I even felt a little guilty for not telling them about David. But what was there to tell anyway? He was just my father’s newest partner. No connection to me; whatsoever. But as I thought this; I felt a strange pang in my heart. Did I just resent the fact that I didn’t have any connection with him? I needed to see a doctor.

As I had been lost in my thoughts, I hadn’t paid attention to where Alex and Kayla had been going. As a result, when they stopped suddenly, I walked right into Alex.
“What the hell…?” I said; rubbing my forehead.
Kayla turned around to face me “Is that guy the reason you are lost in your own little world?” she asked; raising an eyebrow.
“What guy?” I asked and in response; she turned back again. I followed her gaze to the front of the school and felt my jaw drop. My heartbeat escalated as I saw a certain familiar raven haired guy leaning casually against my father’s red Porsche and; lord help me; smirking evilly.

“You do know him.” Said Alex. It wasn’t a question. It was a statement.
I nodded and dragged my feet begrudgingly towards the said vehicle.
“You-” said Kayla; to my horror “-owe us an explanation. A pretty graphic one; if possible.” She winked at me.

I groaned as she led Alex away from me; effectively leaving me alone to face David.

“Hello there.” He greeted me.
“What are you doing here?” I asked him, sighing.
He gave me that annoying smirk of his that made me want to either smack the back of his head or to kiss him senseless. Whoa. Where did this come from?
“Your father asked me to.” He shrugged non-commitingly.
I gritted my teeth. He was going to annoy me to death. “And why would he do that unless you had a scheme of yours behind this?”

He wasn’t smiling anymore. “That’s because” he said “they had to leave urgently for some business in Miami. And the driver went to drop them off at the airport. Now, do you want to go home or not?”
“Fine.” I said.
He nodded and made his way to the driver’s seat. “And Evelyn?” he said. I looked up to listen what he had to say now. “Don’t flatter yourself too much. You’re just a kid to me. I don’t waste my scheming on immature kids who are not even of the legal age to step past drinking cold drinks at parties.”

With this; he got into the car and waited for me to do the same. I don’t know why but his rejection hit me hard and cut me deep inside. I’d never had a boyfriend before and I hadn’t been bothered by this ever before; but for some reason; being rejected by David; even though it wasn’t an actual rejection; hurt. It hurt real bad.
I got in the car quietly and neither of us spoke for the rest of the ride back home.

Christian’s POV:
She looked so cute in that school dress of hers. Just like an innocent little angel. But she was the opposite. She was the only heiress of Ricardo Diaz; the mafia in the attire of a businessman. The lion in the hide of a lamb. I had to remember this always while making my way towards my goal. She was going to be a hindrance if I didn’t pay attention to this little Diaz. I had to plan something for her, and had to do it fast; as I’d just come to know that Diaz and his wife were out on business trip and won’t return for two weeks.
These two weeks; she should better watch out. Because I for sure; am going to watch her.
