孔融是山東人，十歲時隨父親孔宙來到京師（洛陽），年紀小小的他卻造訪當時名節清亮的河南郡長官（河南尹）李膺（粵音：英）的家，結果他的聰明對答讓李膺和在場的賓客都讚歎。
