隨著魔導工業的蓬勃發展，成為「魔法師」的野心在帝國科學家心中悄然滋長，而帶回金曜礦原石的少年「夏彥．修曼頓」成功利用魔導工業改造了人體，成為了第一位魔法師，並因為同時洞悉煉金術、帝國魔導工業、魔法而制霸戰場，成為十七年前維爾本尼亞帝國不可一世的戰神。

然而，維爾本尼亞的興旺並未持續太久，帝國很快地因為金曜礦會放大情緒的副作用而產生內亂，修曼頓最親愛的朋友也即將遭遇不測。不得已之下，修曼頓選擇背叛帝國，直接將金曜礦進行封印，以自身的時間做為代價，陷入漫長的沉睡。

故事的起點發生在十七年後，戰神修曼頓以失憶狀態甦醒，並躲避帝國追擊的公路式逃亡故事。
