Victor stood nervously in a line with his friends in Silver’s office, wondering what they possibly could have done wrong. Mr. Silver was not currently present, Rodrick sat in the corner with his head back facing the ceiling, and Victor shuffled his feet and quietly observed the books mounted against the wall. When Silver did enter the room they were stunned by his vibrant complexion. He swung himself into his desk chair and his wintery eyes looked them up and down.
“Welcome to my office! No doubt you’re wondering why you – an alchemist, a scribe and a scout – have been summoned here by me?”
“Well, if I may, sir, it is a little unexpected,” Victor mentioned.
“Good! Unexpected things are always good; keeps us on our toes and reminds us where we’re at! Anyway, uh, right, you’re here because we have an assignment for you. A menacing vampyre has sprouted up somewhere in West Harbour. This remarkably cunning roach has eluded us for some time and I want you three to track it and kill it.”
“I will be accompanying you,” added Rodrick. “I’d like to see how you go about this business.”
“So it’s a test?” Sam asked.
Silver shook his head. “Oh no, this is the real deal. Let’s just say we have an interest in your abilities. Your friend Astrid has already left to begin the search. Begin your journey to West Harbour tomorrow at dawn. I wish you luck!”
