As a child I grew up with fairy tales and loved the ratcatcher tale from Hameln in Germany. So I started playing the flute as a start. It was great until the school timetable stretched longer through the day and I got too tired to practise.
After many years have passed I stumbled upon a school play called "Compose Yourself". It takes place in a park where a small group of children need to write an essay about a famous classic composer. Little did they know that the statues around them are alive and are the famous classic composers (Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Handel, Strauss and Glass). While casting I wanted to be Beethoven but was positively surprised to get Mozart. Instinctively I did some research about the composer and watched the movie "Amadeus". From there on it inspired me learn to play piano. Realizing how beautiful the piano can sound. Alas my parent and I could not afford a piano, not even an electrical. So it is left with longing and admiration to those who can play.
Right after that I discovered my passionate hobby in dancing, Irish Dance. Everything was great and so researched about the Irish culture. There I spotted the Irish Flute and loved to its sound; elegant, passionate and somehow magical. My parents agreed to purchase one but there was a different problem. Switzerland does not sell Irish Flutes and have teachers to teach that. You can imagine the frown on my face, even when my parents suggested to go back to my flute.
Few years later I intended to read Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. The detective inspired me in many things in life, even today. First it was improving my observation, logical thinking and interpretation but then it came by with Holmes' other passion. The violin. As I asked my parents if I could start the violin my mother protested at all cost. Why? Because in her childhood she had neighbors who practised violin every evening before dinner and they sounded of shriking through the entire neighborhood. She calls a violin a shriking thing with strings. In a way I understood mother but I was sad not being able to play that too. Even the Irish fiddler was not an option.
After all that I stepped back with learning an instrument. Therefore I write where a character or two know how to play an instrument with talent and passion from the heart and soul like I would have too. Plus I discovered my passion in dancing, acting, singing and writing. Maybe an opporuntiy might come knocking or at least I will keep a sharp eye.
