But one day the sun suddenly disappeared without warning. The little polar bear was very angry about this, because it suddenly became cold and dark in the sky. The white fellow became very grumpy. But when he saw that the sun was still shining on the earth, he decided to descend.

"I have come to get the sun," he said to the other animals.

"We won't give it to you," said the fox, trembling with fear.

"Without sun, darkness and cold reign on earth."

"But now it's dark and cold in the sky," the polar bear growled. 

The animals decided to consult. The conference lasted for days, but they did not agree. On the eighth day, the wise raven spoke: "All of us, brothers and sisters, need the sun, including the little polar bear. I suggest the sun stays with us for the summer. In the second half of the year she shall dwell in heaven. During this time it is winter with us anyway and many animals hibernate. That would be fair." And so it was decided. 

Since then, in the far north, the day lasts for a whole summer and the night for a whole winter. The polar bear did not think long and went down to earth with the other animals, where Russia's coast almost meets Finland. In winter, when the sun was in the sky, he kept his hibernation. He didn't need the sun. In the summer, the sun was on the earth, where he was lounging and playing with its rays tickling his nose.
