'Today will be a milestone of the history of mankind, for I will be the first to conquer Mount Everest !' I shouted at the bottom of Mount Everest in the Himalayas, the sound echoed through the horizon. I had traveled for a long time, from England to the Himalayas, just to seize my chances in conquering Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. I had the utmost confidence that I would be the first to step on the summit of Mount Everest. I was prepared for any challenges thrown at me. I took a deep breath, and took my first step on Mount Everest, from where my journey began.

At first there was still a clear trail for me to walk along, but then the road became vague. And not long after, there simply wasn't any path for me to follow. By then I knew that I had come into an unknown territory for humanity. A spark of excitement and the terror of the unknown flowed through my veins but I knew I simply could not turn back. So I continued my quest. But a few days had passed, but there was still no sign of my victory in conquering this enormous mountain. I wasn't sure how long I still had to walk and it was getting harder for me since the view was starting to get blurry.

Suddenly, I heard a loud sound like a beast's roar, 'Rumble!' The sight was even blurrier. The cold snow blocks in the strong wind were practically beating me up. I soon realized that there was a thundersnow hitting. Lightning started to strike and thunder roared fiercely. All of a sudden, I felt like the ground was shaking. And the rumbling sound accompanied it was unsettling. I was not sure what would happen next. Feelings of uncertainty overwhelmed me. But it all became clear what was going on when an enormous curtain of snow rolled towards me, 'An avalanche!' I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. But it was not enough, the curtain of snow caught up to me. Like a monster, it opened its big mouth and swallowed me in it. Then it all became black, not knowing how long time had passed.

It was cold and dark. I was trembling. I tried to sit up and broke my way through to the opening. Then a certain slant of light hit my eyes. I opened my eyes but found myself in a strange place. I had no idea where I was, and I most certainly didn't know the way home. I had given up hope in reaching the top of Mount Everest. I just wanted to be able to find my way down the mountain, from there I would be able to survive and find my way home. I searched around looking for a path to lead me. But I was unaware of the danger lurking around.

A mysterious pair of eyes glowed in the dark. With the thundersnow, it was almost impossible to see. Suddenly, a strong force pushed and pinched me on the ground. I was caught off guard, and when I opened my eyes, an enormous mouth and sharp teeth appeared in front of me, 'Roar!' I was scared half to death. Out of panic, I kicked and pushed it away. When I looked up, I didn't see anything. It was as if it had vanished into thin air. I looked around and suddenly a sharp claw attacked. I was barely missed by a hair. I realized that it was a snow leopard! You could hardly see it in the snow as its white fur completely blended in.

Before the snow leopard could attack again, I ran away as quickly as I could. But the snow leopard wouldn't give up on chasing me. So I kept on running but the snow leopard was too fast. It quickly caught up with me. It leaped up and pinched me to the ground. I was sure I was done for. Just when it opened its mouth to dive into its dinner, a lightning struck on it. That was a very specific lightning strike, as if nature was trying to save me for eternal doom. I quickly got up to run while the snow leopard was still being struck.

Fortunately, out of incredible luck, on my run away from the snow leopard, I found the way leading down the mountain. I quickly ran down the path towards the smoking chimney of those houses. Just when I got there, I had already used up my last strength. I fainted.

When I got up, I found myself in some sort of a hospital ward. The doctor was right next to me. He told me that someone saw me lying on the ground unconscious so they took me to the hospital. I was so relieved that I was saved. The doctor said that I would be fine after a few days before he made his exit to let me rest. I knew that I would be safe by now and could make my journey back home to England. After this exciting adventure, I certainly didn't have the strength nor courage to go on another journey anytime soon. Knowing that my dream of conquering Mount Everest was crushed, though I was glad that other parts of me weren't crushed, my confidence was lost, along with my tears, falling out of my eyes and sliding along my cheeks.

I tried to smile and thought that at least I should finally be able to relax. It should have been that way, right ? Wrong. My heart was still not at peace, I couldn't stop thinking about what had happened. If the lightning hadn't struck the snow leopard, I would have become its dinner. But the thundersnow caused an avalanche which almost killed me. These two events still made me shiver inside. But they also led me to confusion. Is nature our enemy or our friend? Is it trying to hurt me or save me? I felt so painful ! The sadness, the fear, the confusion, all at the same time ! They overwhelmed me. The inner storm in me penetrated my body. Feeling that I have been crushed over and over again. The questions just echoed in my head, " Is nature our enemy or our friend? Is it trying to hurt me or save me? Is it ? Is it ? Is it… "
