It is around eight o'clock in the morning when the sun rises over Paris on a winter's day, a day that promised to be gloomy and frosty. The air was heavy with fresh clouds and the morning dew had given way to a scent of melancholy. At Alexandre and his mother's house, it is his mother who is in charge. A doctor by profession and aged 35, he has still not found the one of his heart even though he has tried many times to seduce women, the latter never wanted a man who was not independent. It was just that Alexandre loved his mother above all and did not want to separate from her, especially after the death of his father in a car accident about ten years ago. Around half past eight the alarm goes off in Alexandre's room, soft music from Steevie Wonder, “i'm free”, wakes him up. The latter then puts on his bathrobe and goes to take a shower. As soon as the shower is finished, and having turned off his alarm clock, he hears his mother calling him: “At the table, it's time for breakfast, you don't want to be late for work. »Sitting at the table, Alexandre's mother looks at him and says: “So where is your research on curing cancer? ". Alexandre was indeed a doctor. For him, illness was absolute evil and he devoted all his energy to his work, leaving no room for doubt or confusion. The idea of curing all cancers with a revolutionary treatment was his motivation. He remembered this morning the ceremony of receiving his medical diploma when he took the Hippocratic oath “to protect from pain”. From that day on, he would vowhis actions for the Good. Shortly after, the death of his father had shocked and wounded him so much that he was even more inclined to help his neighbor. Alexandre then responds to his mother sitting at the kitchen table: “Today is the big test, we are going to carry out an operation on cells to repair them. Fighting disease at its source is my idea and I hope it works.” His mother replied: “You are full of hope about this miracle treatment, but as a good doctor you should not predict the results in advance. It may or may not work. But seeing how enthusiastic you are, I think there is a good chance that your idea will bear fruit.” “Thank you for bringing me back to normal,” replies Alexandre, “it’s true that I’m a bit of a dreamer. If it were up to me I would invest in a single medicine that would cure everything.” Alexandre then leaves his house and after taking a few metros in the underground of Paris full of life, full of acrobats, artists, traders, singers and musicians, he arrives at his office in front of his surgeon colleague who was to perform the test operation on the heart of a patient this very morning, a surgeon named André. He was tall, of a dark complexion; his pale gray hair barely hid his slightly protruding ears. His forehead was monumental and his brown eyes were above his thin nose like two lifebuoys above the water, his mouth was slightly distorted because his lipupper lip was significantly more swollen than her lower lip. André had a slight dimple in his chin that only heroes could proudly display, but the latter's drooping shoulders on a weak chest and frail legs did not hide the fact that André lacked self-confidence. As for Alexander sitting on his seat, the latter looked like a sultan, with dark skin, he had a common face so that one could have confused him with many people in the street. He had a slender body, well maintained by sport. At eleven o'clock the operation began on the patient chosen for this study of the new treatment againstcancer.Alexandre asked André: “So, are you ready for the big jump?” You don't have too much pressure to carry out an operation of this scale, grafting implants to repair faulty tissue? Alexandre understood from then on that he was no longer useful and returned home. On the way in the metro a funny idea came to him, a slightly anxiety-inducing dream, the fact that society would no longer need a doctor if all the treatments were perfect. What will he do next, he who was specialized in curing cancer, he thought from then onthat he would specialize until he conquered all diseases one by one. After all it was his goal, that the company no longer needed him and he didn't care about his professional future but saw himself in such great satisfaction if his project came to fruition that he forgot all his worries. When he returns home, Alexandre finds the hallway of the apartment a little empty except for a shoe rack and an old chandelier whose branches imitate candles. Her mother had gone to a friend's house.Alexander thought that this hallway needed a large mirror to at least look at oneself before heading into town to see if the dress was correct, the hairstyle impeccable, the look suitable. After eating a rice salad at midday, Alexandre spends his afternoon classifying his patient files whichin their turn were waiting for this famous cancer operation. He was so full of euphoria knowing that his research work would lead to a curethat he strings together the files without difficulty, files to which he attaches all the supporting documents in order to obtain financing. At six p.m., the phone starts ringing. It was a very banal ringtone to a classical music tune with modern instrumentation. Alexandre had no idea what news he was going to learn. The latter picks up and starts talking with André: “I have good news and bad news to tell you,” says André. Alexandre replied: “Start with the right one…”. “Researchers have found how to improve the general health of cancer patients,” adds André. “What is the point of this since we have just developed a radical treatment…” said Alexandre who was then interrupted by André who continued: “Mr. Cavardice, thepatient, unfortunately died because the bionic implants were not perfect. This treatment must be abandoned because it is far too risky. The family of the deceased has filed a complaint against us, they may remove us from the medical profession for serious professional misconduct. »Disappointed Alexandre then sits down in his chair as if disconcerted by the news he had just heard, then after a long silence, he decides to hang up the phone, which put an end to the conversation. All his hopes had fallen through the cracks, he had to start by permanently curing the cancer before tackling other illnesses and here he was back at square one with perhaps the loss of his job. He was very sad for the family of the deceased patient but he said to reassure himself that without taking risks, no disease would be overcome. He then goes to the kitchen to pour himself a double scotch to forget his disappointment and after moments of intoxication which barely drowned the sorrow of a cursed day, he goes to bed with the idea that in order to move on to something else, the next day In the morning he would go buy a mirror at the local flea market.
The next day a sparkling sun came to illuminate the capital with a trail of clouds so orderly that one might have thought one could walk above in order to contemplate Paris seen from above as if from an airplane where the Eiffel Tower could pass for a construction of matches. It was morning and Alexandre went to the garage sale organized in his neighborhood. On the flea market square, a multitude of stalls appeared. First a stall which sold clothes hid another which sold books; on the other side it was kitchen utensils that the stand sold with a touting merchant who did not hesitate to make the sound of his voice heard in order to coax customers. After a few streets of stands here and there, Alexandre stopped in front of a stand which offered all kinds of furniture as well as mirrors of all sizes. There were small ones to look at one's face, medium ones to look at one's chest as well as one's head, and large ones, even huge ones, to be able to look at one's whole self.Alexander's sight did not rest on the price of such objects; he had saved enough not to allow himself the luxury of being stingy. A mirror captures all his attention. Its glazing wonderfully reproduced all the roughness and details that the image could give of the object. It was set in a bronze frame painted with a thin film of imitation gold. Motifs with vines and olive branches adorned this mirror which was the largest of the entire collection, wide enough for an entire car to take its full image and large enough, with a height of two meters approximately. At the bottom of this mirror was an inscription in silver which read: “Beyond what you see”. Alexandre thought for a long time about the meaning of this cryptogram without being able to decipher its deeper meaning. Nevertheless he decides to buy the mirror but as it was too big to carry it home alone, he calls his mother on his cell phone; the latter then came to give him a hand and after installing the mirror in the main corridor of the apartment, Alexandre's mother decided to go out to see a friend, leaving her son there with what he had just bought. The yellow complexion of the mirror frame warmedthe atmosphere of this corridor with its habits so dull and sober. Alexandre spent a large part of his time changing his outfit in front of his mirror and contemplating himself. It is said that the difference between animals and Man is that Man is aware of himself as a thinking subject and therefore recognizes the image of his person while the animal does not. do not hesitate to attack this image because you probably think that it is another creature. But a reflection disturbs his thoughts. He first notices like everyone else that the mirror reversed the left-right symmetry. After much introspection he found it logical that his right became his left and his left became his right. But he wanted to push the envelope a little further. Indeed, why doesn't the mirror invert the up-down symmetry? Alexander then reflected that he would normally see his head upside down in the mirror image in the downward direction opposite to where his head was in front of the mirror surface. But he was nothing. He remained like this for a long time moving in front of the mirror in order to better understand this partially inversive mechanism which now seemed strange or even bizarre to him. Suddenly, he saw a flash of white and yellow light emanating from the mirror and the inscription "Beyond what you see" began to glow with an orange-red color which made random variations of colors darkening and lightening to the rhythm. from Alexander's lice. It was then that a wind escaping from the mirror rose, a wind which formed a siphon or rather a vortex starting from the center of the mirror going to the peripheries, a wind which swept away all of Alexander's clothes placed on the ground and whose flanks surround the latter. Then a blackish cloud of a viscous fluid arrives to encompass Alexander, a fluid which was animated by mini lightning which was however harmless to any living being. Then after this fluid had taken possession of Alexander the room became as it was at the start except the clothes had been moved here and there by chance and above all a random disorder. As for Alexander, the latter is caught in a cosmic whirlwind, almost like in a tunnel where he levitated and was carried by the wind as if he were flying but not choosing the direction. His hand had just touched a circular edge of the tunnel and a bolt of lightning began to strike from the side outwards; impossible for Alexandre to get out of this tunnel. It was then that Alexander saw through the side of the tunnel the Earth, a blue planet, which was becoming smaller and smaller at a prodigious speed. Soon it was the sun's turn to be extinguished by the dazzling distance as we progressed through the tunnel. Then,there were a few green, red, blue, white stars to accompany Alexander's journey until the latter saw the entire Milky Way galaxy followed soon by the enormous multicolored Andromeda galaxy then by a hundred see a thousand galaxies then there were millions and billions of galaxies that the tunnel showed in the form of very luminous points until the tunnel only reflected a single-colored background of light which represented all the light of the universe. Then the tunnel led to a junction between two tunnels so that one could say that there was a sort of dissociationspatio-temporal, branching followed by multiple ramifications, but Alexander did not choose the trajectory, it was the wind which did it for him. Soon the tunnel widened and Alexander saw at the end of this tunnel a grayish wall which was becoming blacker and blacker and during the collision he crossed this wall...
