I honestly believes that everyone else was a lot more surprised to hear that Party Poison was still alive. I mean, I was surprised, I just didn’t gasp and squeal like the others did. Even Static, with his usually stoic expression, raised his eyebrows slightly.
“So we have to go get him don’t we?” Play said, “I mean, he may not be alive much longer and we need to go find—Wait, Dr. Death, are you alright?”
I looked over at the old man. Dr. Death Defying had silent tears streaming down his weathered cheeks, and Missile Kid was crying as well.
“What’s wrong?” Mech asked, “Why is nobody planning anything?”
I imagined Mech’s mechanical eye whirring, already calculating plans to get into the Base and release Party.
“He’s back,” Missile whispered, “He’s really back.”
She was smiling. Smiling and crying. It was weird; I had never seen anyone do that before since in my experiences, crying meant pain. Except with Sunshine, she cried about pretty much everything; movies, books, music, and soldiers coming home from the army. Everything.
“Yeah, so he’s back. Why aren’t you crying?”498Please respect copyright.PENANA0uSbEegb4D
Static didn’t feel the emotion in some situations. Obviously.
“Gerard Way,” Dr. D paused, “Before the world ended, Gerard and the four other Killjoys had a band. It was called My Chemical Romance, and they were filled with color and imagination.”
“My Chem!” Mech interrupted, “I remember them! They were amazing!”
Dr. Death nodded, “They were, and I loved them too. Each and every one of those men was special, and the five of them together were a gift.”
“Five?” I inquired, “There were only four Fabulous Killjoys.”
“Five,” Dr. D confirmed, “And please quit interrupting me.”
“Okay.”
“Five men in the band; Gerard, his brother Michael, Raymond, Frank, and Robert. Of course, Michael, Raymond, and Robert all went by Mikey, Ray, and Bob, but I insisted on calling my nephew by his given name; Michael.
“Nephew?” Play interrupted, “Oops, sorry.”
“Yes, he was my nephew,” Dr. D waved away the apology, “Gerard and Michael were. They were the most engaging children, and the music they made was so beautiful.”
“Tell me something I don’t know” the five of us chorused.
Missile giggled.
“So where do you fit in to this?” Sunshine turned on Missile, “Did you know Way before Korse took over?”
Missile shook her head and motioned for Dr. Death to continue.
“Before the end, Gerard was married to a lovely lady named Lyndsey, and they had a little girl named Bandit.”
I nodded, I already knew this.
“When BLi took over, they killed Lyndsey and Bandit. Gerard was beyond heartbroken; he had become a father only to lose his only little girl. When he met Missile Kid, he took to her in a way only Frank and I understood. Grace was like his daughter, and he wanted to protect her at all costs to him. That’s how they all died, Korse took Grace and Gerard and the others went to go free her.”
Grace was crying, and Pony slipped a comforting arm around her shoulders.
“It’s not your fault,” he said soothingly, “He’s still alive.”
“Like I said,” Play piped up, “We need to go find them.”
Dr. D turned to Static.
“Where did you find this?” he demanded
“Base #6 in Sector 5,” Static fired off, “In a hallway only accessible by a hidden staircase.”
I stared at him. He smirked back.
“Well someone’s been busy,” Pony remarked. Static gave a dry laugh.
“When can we leave?” Sunshine asked eagerly.
Dr. Death looked like he was going to protest, but all five of us looked at him so eagerly that he sighed.
“What is my word against a posse of twenty-year-olds?” he asked, “You may go, but wait until Sunshine can walk properly before you do please.”
A silent cheer erupted throughout the room, we all looked at each other and smiled. A day of rest would fix us all up, and then we could get on the road again. Base #6 in Sector 5, a hidden hallway.
I just hoped Gerard would be okay when we found him.
