桌上角色扮演遊戲《龍與地下城》原創遊戲前導故事。

特約記者，半身人約瑟．史萊登在一次調查當地政府帳目報表的時候發現，位於偏遠山區的孤兒院「希望之家」帳目混亂。為了深入調查事件，他前往當地附近小城鎮，並尋求當地教會協助。可惜調查的過程走入了死胡同。然而，正當史萊登躊躇調查工作進展的時候，卻在這個小鎮經歷了一宗離奇古怪的事件。為了繼續發掘真相，史萊登請求冒險者們到山區裏的孤兒院「希望之家」尋回《院監日誌》。
