Sitting all alone

On a fence beside the road,

Sings its strange little song.

You are there. You hear.

But do you care?

It is a bird that you've never

Seen, but only the ones

Who can see beyond

The feathers of the little

Gray thing there

Listen. Do they know

How many years

The little bird has been singing

Its little song unheard?

Or rather, heard,

But ignored.

You know this little bird.

It is part of your life today

Or yesterday or

Tomorrow.

Will you recognize it when

It appears?
