My family bought a house. It was not downtown. It was far from Phnom Penh. It was like the countryside.
On the corner of the road to my house, there was a bush of bamboo. When I drove the motor past it, the wind blew, and I heard a strange voice from it.
One day, I heard the villagers telling my mother to not go near the bamboo bush at noon and around 4 pm. They said that it had a ghost.
My mother did not say anything to the family. Perhaps she did not believe, or she might not have wanted to scare us.
I had a doubt, ‘Is there a ghost?’ I wanted to know the truth.
On Saturday, after lunch, my mother was washing up; my siblings were taking a nap; my father was taking a shower; I took the chance to leave the house and went to the bamboo.
I stood about one meter from the bush of wood and scanned it. I did not find anything strange about it.
I decided to return home.
When I spun my face, suddenly, I heard a sound. It was like music from a flute, but I could know it was from a mouth, a human mouth. I rotated my head back to the bamboo. I viewed it. The wind blew... and it pulled my eyes to look at the top of the wood.
Over there, I saw a woman sitting.
‘What?’ I unlocked my eyes. ‘How can she go up? How can she sit on it?’
I watched the woman. She wore white gown and long cover her legs and feet. She had black hair, and her hair was long like her gown. She looked at another side; I could not perceive her face.
At first, I had no fear, but when I was reminded about the villager’s speech, I got gooseflesh immediately.
I made eyes blink, then I looked at the top of bamboos again.
‘Ah, where is she?’
I looked around. No shadow of that woman.
‘Buddha helps.’
I ran home quickly.
I did not tell anyone about that. I did not go near that bush, since then. Also, I tried to move my siblings from going near it.
