The mall was blazing with light, its entrance already swarmed with fans. Glow sticks flickered in the air like sparks before a battlefield, as if a war was about to break out.
I’d seen this kind of scene plenty of times. It had nothing to do with me. All I wanted was to chill in the air conditioning, maybe find a nice café and spend a quiet day.
But just as I stepped through the cafe, a shrill, familiar scream shattered my peace.
“Hey! Get over here, now!!”
I looked up to see my best friend charging toward me like a tornado, eyes gleaming with something dangerous.
“What… what are you doing?” I didn’t even have time to back away before he grabbed my hand in a death grip.
“You came at the perfect time! They said only the people in the front row get to make eye contact with him, my idol !!”
His voice carried the unshakable conviction of a true fangirl—scarier than the mall’s security guards.
“Who’s ‘they’…? Wait, hang on—I just came for coffee—”
“Coffee? Now?! Are you insane? Run!!”
Before I knew it, I was being dragged like a lamb to the slaughter, my feet barely touching the floor as he hauled me toward the back stairwell.
“W–Wait! Don’t tell me—”
Too late. He was already half-dragging, half-shoving me up the first flight.
“Stairs! The signing event’s on the top floor!!”
“You’ve got to be kidding me—!” My scream echoed through the stairwell like a tragic opera solo.

I could feel my soul preparing to ascend. I… can’t… go… on…
“Hang in there!” he shouted without even turning back. “Just one more floor and you’ll see him!!”
“I don’t want to see him—Let me go…” I clung to the nonexistent railing and nearly slid back down.
Finally, we burst out onto the eleventh floor rooftop. The stage lights flared to life, and the idol appeared, greeted by a tidal wave of screaming. Fans swarmed the front like a battlefield, their shrieks rattling my bones.
My friend’s eyes sparkled like he’d just seen heaven. “We did it! Front row! My idol!!!”
“You did it,” I wheezed, collapsing onto my knees. “I’m already half-dead…”
I had climbed eleven floors for someone I didn’t even care about. My legs gave out completely, and with a dull thud, I fell to my knees and raised my head to the sky in pure despair.
“Next time, don’t ever drag me along again—aaaarghhh!!!”
