The computer screen flickered faintly, and my work lay quietly in front of me. With the holiday coming next week, my heart was already far from here—I couldn’t muster any motivation to work at all. A thought flashed through my mind—let’s go home!
Glancing at the clock, which hadn’t yet passed noon, and taking advantage of the moment while the boss was still on the phone, I quietly packed up my things. My movements were as light as they could be, as if even my breathing had slowed, and then I slipped out of the office.
Walking on the street, there is a food truck across the road, a long line stretching out in front of it. People waited patiently for steaming, delicious food. I didn’t stop—just walked past in silence. At that moment, the desire to go home and rest was stronger than hunger.
Before I realized it, I had arrived at a park. A calm, ripple-free lake lay before me. In the center, a fountain slowly rose and fell, the water churning as concentric ripples spread outward. I sat down by the lake. A gentle breeze brushed past me, and a few birds flew over the water, their shadows skimming the surface before quickly disappearing.
I didn’t feel like doing anything at all, so I lay back on the soft grass, gazing up at the birds soaring high in the sky.
