Emilee kept her head held high as she scanned the trees. Her chest rising and falling as she sprinted from her home. Nothing, not a sound or movement. The forest floor stretched like an endless green ocean. The many years of discarded pine needles scattered on the floor, cushioning the Emilee’s steps. With the stealth that Emilee naturally has and the lush green carpet below her feet, it was nearly impossible to hear her travel through the forest.
Just then, a blood curling cry shook the tree line. The birds jolted from their resting area and took to the sky. Swarming the bright sky and scattering to whatever direction they could. Emilee’s body chilled. It was the cry of the fearsome Graven.
She could feel bugs crawl up her spine as her mind began to replay the events of that past meeting. But before she could sink any deeper in her memory a distant howl snapped her out of her trance. Emilee shook her head. She refused to be distracted any longer by her past. Not now at least. She needed to focus on the task at hand. Escape.
She observed the trees again, there was no signs of Triton following her yet. Emilee hoped she can still sense Triton’s presence after all these years.
She slowed, still scanning the trees. But this time for a different purpose. She was looking for that perfect branch. After a few minutes of searching the canopy, she found the perfect low, sturdy branch to use. Jumping up and grabbing a good hold on it, she lifted herself up. Emilee climbed a bit higher in to the trees. She found herself a nice little nook in the tree that will be adequate for her to cozy up in. Now all she had to do was wait Triton out. A guy can only stay down for so long after a kick like that.
Emilee was right, after a few moments of settling down the forest became bustling with activity. She pressed herself against the tree, hoping to further conceal herself. But something was wrong. The canopies were moving rougher then they usually would. Loud rumbles could be heard throughout the forest. The aftershocks of the rumbles would move the tree Emilee was nesting in.

The aftershocks made it difficult for Emilee to stay hidden in the nook. This is strange. Emilee knew this forest. It never behaves this way. She looked down to see if traveling on the forest floor would help, seeing how hiding wouldn’t benefit her any longer.

The forest floor seemed like a blur. Like the trees themselves were moving. Emilee knew that was impossible… But not for a forest mage. She cursed silently. How could I forget? Great, Triton is using the trees to find me. I need to get to the ground. Emilee held her grip against the moving tree. It barely helped keep her balance. But it was better than nothing.

“Emilee! I know you are hiding. Come out and let’s talk.” Triton called. His voice sounded close.

Emilee prepared herself as best as she could. Using her feet to push off, she leaped from the tree. Hugging her arms and bringing her knees to her chest, Emilee spun twice in the air before releasing her form and landing safely.

Few moments after her safe landing, Emilee was tackled to the floor again. Her head smashed in to the rough ground and the world around her spun. She could make out Triton’s blurry figure shoving a cloth around her mouth. Emilee forced herself not to inhale from the cloth but as luck would have it, she needed to breathe so she took a deep breath. She was swiftly engulfed by darkness. Slowly, she lost her connection to the world and slipped off with the darkness.
