I finally bought the Emily Wilson version of The Iliad, as you and Caleb so adamantly recommended. I swear, the two of you were practically singing its praises, insisting it had the perfect balance of flow and accuracy. I wouldn’t tell Caleb that you never actually mentioned preferring Emily Wilson before that moment hahaha. I think he’d crumble like an overbaked biscotti.
Anyway, I’ll let you know if I’m won over, or if I’ll end up siding with Fagles instead. Please don’t disown me.
I also got the photos of your Roman sculpture recreations back from the lab today, and they look so good. Honestly, you wouldn’t believe how great they turned out. Caleb looks like he was born to pose as a marble sculpture, and you were as effortlessly dramatic as always. The Farnese Hercules stance suited you disturbingly well. I’m looking at them right now. The right hand behind the back with the apples is such a highlight.
There are a few where the lighting made it look like it could be found on a historical book cover. If we ever do another themed shoot, we now know what time to go for the most dramatic effect!
If the plan doesn’t change, I’ll bring the prints to our hangout today.
Just promise me you won’t make me pick a favorite.
