盘古开辟，天地初分，先天元炁化生神格，昊天上帝降世也。及至日月星辰、山川草木而生，大道之中又化生三清尊神。神们感到世间过于寂寥，遂造禽兽虫鱼于四方。后来不知道过了多少年，其中演化出了人类。人类悟出了修行之道，可以人力夺天地之造化，与神同寿。然则修行之法殊异，且得道之人越多，天地灵气越稀，修行便越难。及至东汉初年，天生一人，得太上老君之秘传，捉鬼伏妖以聚天地灵气，方有再证道者。后人从其法，相沿成教。此书便是此中故事。
