Odysseus stared at the empty street in front of him. There were no bodies meaning his attack didn't hit. They just disappeared. He began to grow furious. He formed a fist and slammed it in the ground, leaving a crater in the pavement.
“Ryker,” he gritted through his teeth.
“Yes sir!” Ryker jumped to attention.
“They escaped… With Aviv.” he growled.
“Yes sir.. ” Ryker gulped. His master was furious, there was no telling what would happen this time.
Last time when Ryker came back empty-handed, Odysseus lost control. He almost killed Ryker on the spot, but instead, he fused him with some essence of other lower guardians he had captured. It was painful. At first, it clashed with his own magical powers that ran through his veins, but it soon settled and Ryker gained new powers. He was stronger than before, so having another higher guardian slip through his grasp, even after getting a power-up, Ryker was sure he'd die this time.
Odysseus turned around and walked towards Ryker. Once he was in front of him he reached his hand and placed it around Ryker's throat.
“Give me one good reason why I shouldn't kill you right now. I found you washed up, tossed out, and abandoned. I took you in, gave you powers, promised you a position in my new world, burning your world to ash. All for what? Two. Two higher guardians have slipped through my grasp, because of you.. So why should I keep you around?” Odysseus said as he started to squeeze.
Ryker didn't have an answer. Odysseus was right. He changed his life and he has done nothing but fail. Suddenly he remembered that scientist, Kage. He said he was from another world. He could be useful.
“We need that scientist. He's from another world. He has information on that bitch Mystic. He might be able to find where she's from. Then I'll make it my personal quest to find her, and kill her.”
“Then I'll just take the scientist with me myself and have him replace you. Try again,” he said as he squeezed harder.
“Mystic… She'd probably… Run as soon as… She saw you… If It's me… She'll let… her guard down.. Thinking she.. Could win… “ He struggled through gasps of breath.
“She beat you before. You ran like a scared little mouse. What makes you think you could win now?” Odysseus said releasing the pressure but his hand remained around Ryker’s neck.
“That was before you gave me a boost of power. I'm sure that scientist could also give me a boost. I'll kill her for sure the next time we meet.” He said with determination.
Odysseus just glared down at him, eyes glowing red in the darkness. He finally released his grip. “You better not disappoint me this time. Get the scientist, then you can come back. If he doesn't want to come, then don't bother coming back. because I will kill you. I have no need for failures in my world.” He turned around and opened a portal, disappearing from sight.
Ryker reached up and rubbed his throat, “Fucking hell. That bitch is going to pay.”
“Well you look like you're in deep shit.” a raspy voice called out from the shadows.
Ryker looked up to see a tall man, dressed in all black, smoking a cigarette, teal eyes glowing in the night.
“You. This is your fucking fault. You helped them escape. Aren't you with the league? Why would you help that feathered fuck hero?” Ryker growled.
Dabi stepped out from the shadows, taking one last drag of his cigarette before dropping it on the ground and smashing it under his foot.
“Because as much as I hate that fucking bird brain, I hate that scientist more. I also don't like what you and your boss are doing here. I suggest you leave before we make you regret it. Go back to “your world” or whatever, but you're interrupting our plans and that pisses me off. “
Ryker scoffed “Like you could fucking take me.”
Dabi lit his flames as he tilted his head to the side “Do you want to test that theory? Cause I'm more than ready. I've been itching to kill someone.”
“Tch, Whatever. What do you want?” Ryker asked as he rolled his eyes.
Dabi started to chuckle. “What I want….is for you to fuck off. Take that shitty scientist and leave. The league doesn’t need you or your ‘new world’. We’re making our own here.”
“That’s it?”
Dabi pulled another cigarette out of his pocket and lit it with a small flame from his fingertip. “No. I want whatever jucy intel you got on feathers. I saw you use an ability on him. Did ya read his mind or something?”
“Something like that, I saw his memories.” Ryker paused for a moment then smirked “I’ll tell you, but first I want to know why you want us out of the league. Why don’t you want to join us in the New World?”
“I want to see the complete downfall of Endeavor. His entire reputation ruined. His life shattered into pieces before I kill him and everyone else in that shitty family.” Dabi hissed through a puff of smoke.
“Oddly specific, what did he do to you? Isn’t he a Hero and why the entire family?” Ryker asked.
“He used to be my hero, a long time ago. But that all changed when shithead Shoto was born.” Dabi said as he crushed the cigarette in his hand.
“Interesting. Tell you what. I’ll tell you Hawks life story if you tell me yours. That shouldn’t be a problem, I’ll be leaving anyway. I’m just curious what drives a man like you to pass up a literal ‘out of this world’ opportunity just for revenge.”
Dabi stared at Ryker, debating if it was worth it. He hasn’t told anyone who he really is in ages. He was planning to do a big reveal on TV in a few months, but what could it hurt, right? He could get the dark scoop on Hawks. He could use it against him, and prove he’s a traitor to the league. He grinned a sinister smile.
“Fine. You have a deal. Tell me about the feathered fuck.”
