Year: 1998 Location: Orphanage
Through the Eyes of Victor and Victoria
We were on our way to the orphanage to pick up our final subjects. Victor looked very worried, and lately, I was beginning to think he was closer to insanity. When we arrived at the orphanage, we had certain criteria: the smartest but also the dumbest, the most agile but the most clumsy, and the most attractive and potentially genius subjects with no Heiliant blood. We took a blood sample from each of the fifty children we selected, and Victor persuaded the director of the orphanage with a lot of money to give us the children who would be useful to us, to adopt into the system.
Sometimes Victor didn't understand. He was ruthless and impetuous. They were children who knew nothing of magic and this world, and their psychology had been turned upside down because they were teenagers during the experiments. But they were also different from the norm now, with their new powers, they were getting into a lot of trouble and following in my beloved brother's footsteps. I tried to heal the wounds that Victor had inflicted on them with my own efforts, but I was not successful. After a while, when they started to like it, I started to like it too. Every day, we were one step closer to our plan, and we spent months and years with Victor, day and night, trying to find the formula for the perfect power.
Of course, they wanted to live their lives with these powers, but Victor had placed an explosive chip in each of their necks, and his only warning was:
V: "If you try to remove it, you die. If you play with it, you die. If you try to break it, you die."
It had happened, and I couldn't take it anymore. I just wanted to get it over with and let them go back to their normal lives. Victor was working in the lab one day when Magnus asked him:
M: "When you're done with us, you'll dispose of these bombs, right?" A: stammering "He means without killing us."
Veronica: "Yes, Victor, there must be a reward for putting up with everything." V: "Children, of course you will get your freedom."
But that wasn't the truth. That same night I told Victor that I was a little happy that he was leaving them:
V: "What nonsense are you talking about? They're just test subjects to make us stronger. When I'm done with them, none of them will matter."
VA: "You can't do this to them, Victor. We can't force them against their will. When did we become so cruel?" V: "You're wrong, brother, we've always been ruthless. I just found a way to expose it. They have one mission: find the girl and bring her to us."
VA: "And what do we know about where the girl is?" V: "She is a granddaughter, my dear brother, a purebred granddaughter. The power we seek is in her blood. If they can pull this off, I could be the most powerful creature ever."
VA: "Everything must be perfect, a single point of error will lead us to God." V: "That's why you have to be careful. You are the one who has the knowledge of chemistry. One mistake, and I will put one of those chips in you, dear brother."
He had threatened me, but he missed the point that if I injected myself first, I would be able to defeat him. So, I set to work on this plan, always backing up the trio of malfunctions and making sure that they succeeded in everything they did so that I could save my life first and then theirs. Victor had a tremendously perfect mission for them, and I started to prepare a vial of power for each of them.
M: "Hey Victoria, are you okay?" taps her on the shoulder
V: "I'm fine; you scared me."
M: "I called out, but you didn't hear me."
V: "Why are you here? Where are your brothers?"
M: "I think we're old enough now to understand that they want to be alone."
V: "Yes, that's the thing, there's nothing wrong with that, of course, because you're not related by blood, but it's still a bummer."
M: "Have you ever been in love, Victoria?"
V: "I'm not that old yet, Magnus, have you?"
M: "I think I have, but I'm a novice, whereas she's a queen in every way."
V: "Wow, tell me what he's like."
The conversation was interrupted when Victor entered the room. I sent Magnus away and started to fight Victor's gaze.
V: "What were you talking to him, brother?"
VA: "He was talking to his brothers and sisters about how happy they were to have us."
V: "They are, of course, miserable. They would have a normal life, but I turned them into superhumans. What else could they want?"
VA: "Except for a real life, yes."
V: "What do you mean, they are not clones?"
VA: "Yes, they may not be clones, but they are your soldiers."
V: "Aren't you happy that when I'm done with them, you'll be reunited with your beloved niece?"
VA: "My nephew? Milan?"
V: "It's all about bringing her back."
VA: "Victor, I need to know, is he still alive?"
V: "She's in a deep sleep. If I can make him a Rein Orca, everything will be fine."
VA: scared "You must be out of your mind. Rein Orka, there is nothing we can do, it's a theory."
V: "But dragons can fly, right?" insidious smile "Tick tock, Victoria, time is working against you. Fail, and you'll be a bomb."
VA: "Of course, brother."
His crazy ideas and plans frightened me day by day, and his cruelty towards his daughter shook me to my core. Making him Rein Orka was a farce in itself; he was just a legend in our myths. But he was right; if dragons could exist, so could she.
I started to do some research, and even I was surprised at what I could find out about Rein Orka. Of course, I wasn't researching it on the internet; unfortunately, our history has never been information that we could find on the internet. Old books, references in encyclopedias, vague descriptions and all that. But while I was researching Rein Orka, I realized that there were many civilizations trying to use it. It was pure energy, and the sphere that held that energy was Rein Orka, and Victor was after it. But it was a give and take, a soul for a soul. Everything had to be in balance. If it granted a wish, it awakened a nightmare. When I did a little more research, I found that there was an ancient fox tribe who used it:
"He was a powerful chief who looked after his tribe, provided for them, and was a hero that history will remember. The Raposas, who from the earliest songs have made it a principle to control our powers and discover skills, every century or so bestowed a power on Rein Orka. The one who made the promise would pour energy into him, and it became a tradition. Charles Riotta, chief of a Raposa tribe founded in the mid-8th century BC, used the orb for a different purpose and was hailed as a hero. To protect his family against the Ryu, he made a wish to grant his descendant and his descendants his power, but Rein Orka gave him a curse in return, giving each descendant a partial illness, a mental illness that was passed down from one descendant to the next because Charles was a magician with two tails. And this was the only deal he could make to protect his tribe and his family, so he surrendered to Rein Orka. It saved his tribe, and the Ryu never came near his family or tribe again. Year after year, and each Riotta member began to cope with the disease. The last granddaughter and the next generation after her daughter Marilyn Riotta, Frank Riotta, her father, made one more wish for his granddaughter and gave his soul to Rein Orka and disappeared. Marilyn searched for him for years while the powers Marilyn inherited from her father never manifested. Three years after giving birth to her daughter, Marilyn passed away, and Frank's grandfather's powers manifested in his granddaughter Violet. The tribe protected her with their lives because she was the granddaughter of the chief and placed her with a family."
That was the information I was looking for. If I could find that girl, I could find Rein Orka, and the next step was to inform Victor, and we started looking for her.
