As we drove towards home, I recounted the recent events to Luna while reliving them in my mind over and over again. I could see the disbelief in her eyes, and even though I sensed that she was scared, she tried hard to console me.
Luna: "Alright, I understand, but why did you have to spill my milkshake? It was my favorite flavor, you know."
Violet: "Well, she was being so pompous; I just couldn't resist giggles."
Luna: "Alright then, how about we have a pajama party at my place tonight?"
Violet: "To blow off some steam? Absolutely, yes!"
We made a quick stop at the market, grabbing bags full of snacks and goodies, and then we swung by my house for a few things I needed to pick up. After letting Luna know that I'd be right back, I headed upstairs.
After packing my essentials into my backpack, I descended the stairs. However, I hesitated for a moment as my ears started ringing intensely. I felt disoriented, swaying left and right, struggling to keep my balance. I noticed an unfamiliar number calling me just as I was about to answer, but I regained my composure before picking up the call. By the time I answered, it had already disconnected. Luna's car honk brought me back to the present, and I hurriedly went downstairs, saying, "I'm ready; we can go now."
When we arrived back at my place later, I noticed a faint fruity aroma in the air. I asked Luna about it, and she explained, "I got a steam machine for relaxation. It releases aromatic steam every hour."
I replied, "I really like it; it's so refreshing," realizing that my sensitivity to scents extended to the house as well. We prepared our snacks and picked a movie, setting everything up for our movie night. Our ability to chat through every scene, even the scariest ones, and crack jokes made watching the film a delightful experience.
Suddenly, Luna's phone rang.
It was Alvin calling. Luna answered, her face displaying a mix of curiosity and concern. After their conversation, she hung up and turned to me.
Luna: "Hey V, Alvin's in the backyard. Do you mind if I spend some time with him? Will you be alright?"
She gave me an endearing look.
Violet: "Of course not, Luna. Friends are here for moments like these. Oh, and tell that Romeo to get Juliet home before midnight smirks."
Luna: Grinning "As you command, my lady."
I started tidying up while feeling the fatigue settling in. I decided to take a shower to refresh myself. I left the back door slightly ajar so Luna could enter if she fell asleep while waiting. Then, I went for a shower.
From Luna's perspective:
Inner thoughts: "Why did he come at this hour? This kid never learns; he deserves a scolding for sure. He's about to ruin everything."
I went outside to meet Alvin, my face showing a mix of anxiety and relief as I first hugged him, then asked:
Luna: "What brings you here at this hour?"
Alvin: "I came to see the moon's daughter. Is there a problem, my lady?"
Luna: "Oh really? Weren't you howling at the moon during the full moon just recently?"
Alvin: "If you keep talking like that, Violet will go into an anaphylactic shock."
Luna: "True. So, why are you here?"
Alvin: "Alpha wants us to move her from here soon. He'll find out shortly if we don't act fast, and that won't end well."
Luna: "I understand, but trust me; she's not ready. We need more time."
Alvin: "I'm sorry, but if Victor gets to her before we do, things won't end well."
Luna: "So, what's our plan then?"
Alvin: "Reveal the truth to her. We live in a world where she belongs, including us. We'll do it when the time is right; we can't afford to wait."
Luna: "Alright, I get it. This is for her well-being, after all."
Alvin: "We'll take her to Merlin; he'll be a better teacher since he shares our lineage."
Luna: "Merlin? Are you all out of your minds? No, that's definitely not happening."
Alvin: "I know you're scared, but trust me; he can reveal the truth to her, just like he did for me."
Luna: "What do you mean by that? When did you meet him?"
Alvin: "My dear, you're asking too many questions, and this isn't the right place for it. Our priority is Violet."
Luna: "We'll discuss this later. Right now, I need to go."
Alvin: "My lady, the moon is shining brightly tonight; it's the perfect time for a howl smirks."
Luna: "Beware of the wrath of the Griffin, young wolf smiles."
After Alvin left, I entered the house, feeling uneasy about how to explain all of this to Violet. Trying to convey this truth was like convincing someone that the world was round when they believed it was flat. I needed to approach it carefully, explaining step by step, and hopefully, she wouldn't panic.
From Violet's perspective:
I woke up with a start as Luna stood over me, her eyes filled with fear. I asked her if she was okay, and she responded, "V, you need to wake up. We need to talk."
I was disoriented, and my groggy mind tried to make sense of the time. "It's four in the morning. I hope there's no bad news," I said as I rubbed my eyes and washed my face.
"No, it's not that," Luna replied, her voice trembling. She was clearly afraid of something, and it worried me.
Luna: "Violet, have you been feeling unusually sensitive to everything around you lately?"
Violet: "A bit more than usual, why?"
Luna: "There's a complicated reason for that, and I'm struggling to explain it to you."
Violet: "You're scaring me; just calm down and tell me slowly."
Luna: "Do you remember your great-grandfather, Harper, and why he disappeared?"
Violet: "Yes, he vanished, and we accepted that he was gone for years."
Luna: "Well, the ones who made him disappear were Victor and Victoria, his siblings."
Violet: "How do you know this? Are you working for them or something?"
Luna: "No, I'm not, and I know because they're after your great-grandfather for the same reason they're after you."
Violet: "What reason is that, and what have they done to my great-grandfather?"
Luna: "You see, Violet, our world isn't what you think it is. You belong to a lineage, like many Heiliants, a gift granted after a certain period."
Violet: "Heiliants? What are you talking about? Please explain."
Luna: "Alright, take a deep breath and try to stay calm. Heiliants are beings like us, but they're soulless, and their souls have been stolen. To outsiders, they appear human, but they're connected to one of the four kingdoms: Raposa, Lupo, Sparrow, and Phoenix. There's also a fifth kingdom, Ryu, but it's forbidden to mention."
Violet: "What do these kingdoms represent, and how does this relate to me?"
Luna: "They represent the four elements: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. Each element is associated with an animal-Fox, Wolf, Griffin, and Phoenix. Your great-grandfather, Harper, belonged to one of these kingdoms, Violet."
Violet: "Wait, this is nonsense. My great-grandfather disappeared and died, not some mystical society."
Luna: "Please, let me show you; it's the only way you'll believe."
Violet: "How are you going to do that?"
Luna: "Do you trust me?"
Violet: "I trust you, but..."
Luna: "No buts. Just trust me, alright?"
Violet: "Alright."
I looked at Luna with a mix of fear and curiosity. Her skin started shifting colors, turning shades of red and orange. Her face transformed into an animal-like visage. It was as if I were witnessing something impossible, and then, a sudden burst of warmth and light washed over me, the last sensations I could remember before everything went black.
