He said it was a rough start,

But a rough start isn’t supposed to last five months,

The worst was November, he said,

There wouldn’t be another November, he said,

No, but there was a December,

There was a January,

There was a February,

But I made sure there was no March.

At the end, he was desperate,

He held my cheek,

He told me he didn’t tell me I was pretty enough,

He asked about all the plans we—he—made,

He told me he would miss my friends--
