"Hon, don't forget to talk to Ms. Jen about your book report!"
"I wont!" He continued out the house, to see his two best friends, Jen, (not to be confused with his teacher,) and Echet.
"Dude, you take like an hour to get dressed, get ready, you probably even spend, like 20 minutes trying to put on a pair of shoes."
"Oh, shut up Echet."
"Maybe I would if you didn't get ready for school like a girl, Darek."
"Both of you both act like a bickering pair of schoolgirls, lets go."
The three of them started on their walk to school, and Darek turns back and waves at his dad.
"See you later Dad!"
"Daddies boy."
"Mother issues."
"Family issues."
"God, you two never shut up."
They arrived at school. All 3 of them were 15, and sophmores. The school was your usual public school of their area, about the size of an average 3 story house that's 200 feet long. The school name, the Scats. Every teacher there was a mean one, most even beating some kids. Hey, 2000 years into the future destroys some laws put in place.
"Have fun at Ms. Jen's, you are gonna get your ass beat for turning that report in late." Echet said.
"Have fun at Mr. Skot's, that damn pedo weirdo's class." Jen said.
He finally arrived at Ms. Jen's class with Jen, who also had her class. She was, of course, Ms. Jen's favorite student due to the name similarity.
"Ms. Jen?"
"What Darek?"
"I got that book report you asked for me to bring in yesterday. I did some extra work on it due to me missing it's due date."
"As long as I read it, and its not absolute shit, you wont get your ass kicked." She said. Darek went to his desk to start reading a new book he checked out from the library, all about mythical creatures. He started reading a chapter about this monster called: "The Epikeímenos Gigan." A creature that caused the wipeout of all of Canada. 2000 or so years ago, a giant boom came out from Canada, and caused a ripple of an explosion across the entire world. Earthquakes everywhere, and it was all hell. Nobody knew how it happened, and any witness reports were squeaked from record. Only now there were people across the world with suspicions, and guesses. Some said it was a giant tsunami, some say it was a terrorist attack, and some said it was a giant monster. A giant monster, when standing, covered all of Madagascar with its feet, when its legs spread out, crossed over all of the U.S. And when laying flat, covered a decent portion of Africa.
¨You seriously reading that nonsense again? Hasn't my father talked to you about this?" Jen said.
"I know, I know, but my dad encouraged it. He said it was worth my time to learn others theories to make your own."
"That's not making your own theories, that's taking other people's theories and recycling them. What is even your goal with reading all this?" Jen asked.
"Its just entertaining ok? I didn't know I had another mom. I also have mentioned multiple times I want to become a researcher deployed to the now gone land of Canada."
"You are still going on about this? You wanna be one of those nutjobs trying to figure out why that happened? Its been 2000 years, and life hasn't been better since all the world experienced that. You wanna live in a RV, with a board with red rope? I get it's your passion, but you really need to study to get a more practical job." Jen explained.
"Damn okay, stop grilling me."
Once school ended, the 3 of them meet up to walk home, as usual.
"Echet, what do you think happened to Canada?"
"Darek, drop it-"
"No, I'm curious what he thinks about it."
"Isn't that the place that we are learning about in history? Well, if I had to say, it was probably a tsunami, or some freak nature accident. All these weird monster theories are just odd."
"Like I said Jen, I want to know other's theories to create my own."
"I get it, but it's just weird the way you randomly bring that up on the walk. Lets just walk home."
"Sorry."
They continued to walk, until they hit a split.
"I gotta go left now, as usual." Jen said.
"Bye!" Both Darek and Echet said.
2 houses later, Echet had to go too.
"Seeya tomorrow Darek!"
"Bye Echet."
Darek continued on his walk home, walking by 10 houses until he finally reached his, which the door was open, which was odd. He entered, and saw a man on the ground. Not his mom, dad, but a random man. His Mom and Dad were never home when he got home, they both went to work. The random man had a suit on and everything.
"I hear something. Hold." The man said.
The phone started to ring, and the man answered. It was automatically on speaker mode.
"Son, can you do the dishes? Your mom apparently forgot to. 'hey, I was busy getting ready!' Sure, well, get those done if you could." The man hung up the phone.
"So someone is here. Morons assumed it was their kid." The man said with a smirk on his face."
He dashed around the corner and looked at Darek with eyes all black. No white, his eyes were black, completely unidentifiable. The man reached for the kids arm at insane speed.
"Sorry about this kid." He grabbed Darek's thumb and lifted it up.
"So the suspicions were right. He does have a line in his thumb. No cross, but he does have the usual identifying line. My promotion is going to be insane. 100 billion dollars too for finding them. Life has never been better."
Just then, the door swung open.
*POP*
The man was shot in the head, and my father, in the doorway, had looked a way I had never seen before. Not anger, not sadness.
He felt undying fear.
