They all sip from fancy flutes of wine,

Gaze scrutinizing, with the intent to harass.

These people titter and giggle, preening behind imaginary fans,

Calculating eyes, whispered promises of unacted plans.

They mock my clothes, my hair, my skin,

Saying “it’s too plain, such a sin.”

They are all hungering to ruin my life.

I smile politely, grasping your hand,

“Dear, don’t you understand?”

The house is burning,

Nerves have my stomach churning.
