Her perfect face is always contorted in a grimace or devilish smiles, her delicate hands used only to slap or harm me.
She is my mother, the queen.
I used to envy Snow-White for her beauty and kindness. She could walk up to any beast, whether it be man or creature and they would swoon and do anything for her. Then I realized what was her power would also be her downfall.
It was not only me that noticed her beauty, for mother grew jealous with each day that Princesse Snow-White grew prettier.
Her lips as red as roses
Hair as black as ebony
and skin as fair as snow
And sure enough at the age of 14 she was indeed beautiful. And so my story goes, the one of the lost princess, the one locked away.

Mother stood in front of her mirror, the frame twisted upwards in a spiralling rose bush. Her face a perfect oval, her hair twisted in a perfect auburn crown above her head. Her eyes covered with sorrow and fear yet beneath that facade they are filled with greed and anger.
"Keres, darling, would you mind doing me a favour?" Her voice as clear as day, as smooth as silk. My stomach churned with the knowing fact that the favour would be more heartbreaking than anything yet my desire to prove myself worthy to my mother ran even more deep.
I nodded almost painfully slow. My mother smiled in approval. In one swift motion, she grabbed her hair brush from the tabletop and whipped it at the mirror. The beautiful looking glass shattered in millions of crystal shards. I watched as amazement as they flew on to the floor, one sliding all the way to my feet.
Mother grabbed a shard of her beloved mirror and handed it to me.
" Take this, Keres, and stab your sister." This was no comment or declaration, it was an order. My heart throbbed and my bones ached, yet I still reached out to grab the unforgiving shard or mirror. My hands trembled and as I clenched it, it sliced my palm, creating a flow of blood streaming down the broken glass.
"But…..mother…." there was question in my voice, yet mother ignored it.
" Now, Amra Keres."
I swallow and nod, obeying just as King Adrian had before his death. It was only I who knew the truth. After marrying my mother, King Adrian mistreated mother, she would come to breakfast with bruises and sores and so mother, had gotten an assassin to eliminate him. She swore it was not just for her, but for us, he threatened to take me away and abuse me as he had her. Yet King Adrian truly did have a soft spot for mother, everyday she would ask him to handpick her the prettiest flower. And he did. She asked him to eliminate the poor peasant who had looked at her the wrong way, and he obeyed.
The story is difficult and filled with lies, yet I wish not to blame mother. For she is the only idol I have received in my life, my hero, the only saviour. So I do not. I do not tell Snow that it is really mother that killed her beloved father. I only nod a bow my head when we share knowledge of our time with him.
I do not know why I obey mother as I do now. Perhaps it is that I too want Snow-White dead, or perhaps I am only scared of what mother will do to me if I do not carry out her wishes. Whatever the reason, I follow through, making my way to Snow's chambers.
I knock once, twice. Her sweet voice like honey and as warm as the sun is like a song.
"Come in." I wait. Hiding the shard behind my back, then open the door. Snow stands there looking in her looking glass, a perfect smile displayed on her lips. " Oh! Sister, how lovely it is to see you?" I smile back to her, there is something about Snow. A notion that whomever she speaks to is forced into a smile, whether it be fake or sincere, it is as if she bewitches you.
I walk forward without a word. I take a breath before revealing the shard. By now I am close enough to Snow that there is no escape. She sees the shard and looks up at me with horror.
"Sister you're bleeding," this was Snow-White, always thinking of others.
" I am sorry sister, but you must understand, I........" there was no explanation for my next actions. I lunge attacking her at her chest, but she only gasps and moves away. I turn back to her, but she runs. She runs as if Father were to be standing at the door awaiting her, but he is not. I chase after her, yet Snow always excelled in whatever it was she tried. She was always faster, prettier, better.
She runs and soon I realise her patterns. She is running to mother. Ha, I'll get her now, I just need her to waltz into mothers chambers and then mother will see me carrying out the deed. Yet as she burst into mothers chambers all I see is the burst of movement. Guards on all sides, flanking my side, gripping me with cold hands. I scream and flail yet they are much bigger and have years practicing fighting and other skills. No! I have failed mother once again, and she shall never be able to forgive me. Snow runs into mothers arms and cries and cries.
Why isn't mother killing her, I think, no she is too smart she shall wait until all the guards have exited .
"My Queen it seems that it is Amra Keres that has broken your beloved mirror." The one guard says taking away the piece of glass. What- no mother will stop this, she is the one who gave me the shard......to kill Snow White. To become a criminal.....to kill my sister. " And it looks as if she were trying to harm princess Snow."
I try to yell, to shout my innocence, but the queen cuts me off and no one interrupts the queen.
" It seems that you are correct, take this one to cellars in the towers, lock her in there," My chest heaves, yet I am incapable of voicing my opinion. So I stay silent as the lock me in the cellar in the tower.
If only I had known about the queen's evil plans, to ensnare not only me but Snow White. For after that moment, where my mother comforted her like the child I was suppose to be, Snow always trusted her.
The perfect plan, create a bond, so that she may have what she wants, to be fairest of them all. And later as I awaited in my little cellar I could hear servants yelling that the princess was dead. The queen had won.
And even after the years I imagined Snow White living her dream in a palace of her own with a prince as a husband. For she was the perfect one, with a life worth living, unlike mine. And perhaps she did live in a palace with a prince, but this I believe to be true.
