“And the Dolphins win the gammmmme!” the announcer on Winter’s phone said, and she stared down at the screen as the man in the football team waves his hands happily.
“Woooh,” she said with a monotone.
She put her phone down then, resting her head on a tree as she drank from another pseudo juice box.
When she ran away from Cameron again, she ended up here—in the middle of the woods—without warning Josie of her whereabouts.
It was whatever, honestly. Winter had superspeed and other heightened abilities, but she only used them in dangerous situations.
She honestly didn’t know how she had Wi-Fi out here, but she didn’t really care.
But she searched her pocket again, finding there were no juice boxes left, and she exhaled a curse, standing.
Goddamn it. Now she had to get more.
Winter sighed, looking up.
Well... this would’ve happened sooner or later.
She then bent her legs and sprang up, flying up to a tree branch and did it again, going higher and higher until she reached the top of the tree.
She then crouched and scanned her surroundings, turning to find a bird nest in the branches beside her, and the mother sitting on the eggs looked as if she were glaring suspiciously.
“Sorry,” Winter whispered.
But she continued, hopping off the branch and landing on another treetop, continuing like she was running on grass.
But then she reached the city, and she sprang off the branch and let the air slide up her body as she fell.
Then she landed on the sidewalk in a crouch, earning a couple glances, but they shrugged it off.
Winter stood fully, pulling her hood over her hair and shoved her hands into her pockets as she wove through the pedestrians on the streets, making her way further down.
When she reached the local hospital, she pulled the hood more over her hair and entered, breathing silently as she passed the receptionist desk and gazed up, finding a familiar vent on the ceiling.
After glancing around and finding no one, she jumped up, latching onto the ceiling and slid open the door, swinging herself into the ventilation system seconds later.
She breathed out quietly, crawling through the tight metal pathways before turning right and continuing for three minutes.
But she met the place she needed, and she gazed down through the slits of the door to find a single person in the room, sliding a blood pack on a shelf.
Winter waited patiently for them to leave, and after checking again, she slid open the door and slipped out, landing on the floor silently.
She crept over to the fridge and opened the door, shoving blood packs into her sweatshirt pocket while checking for threats.
When she got about ten in, she immediately hopped up-into the vent and slid the door closed, crawling through the system again before making her way to the lobby, and she opened the door, checked for witnesses, then fell out, dangling while she closed the door.
She then landed on the ground, walking back out from the hospital casually.
When she made it to the streets, she activated her superspeed and dashed home, all the people and lights blurs as she darted down the sidewalks.
She stopped at her apartment building and opened the door, going through the halls of millions of people and up three flights of stairs before she made it to her floor, sliding her key into her door and going in.
After closing it and locking the bolt, she tugged a bag out from her pocket and tore it open, downing it in one go before tossing it in her trashcan and went straight to the bathroom.
Winter bent down, turning on the sink and splashing water on her face, watching the white ceramic as the blood splattered all over her mouth spiraled down into the drain.
She grabbed a towel and patted her lips dry. When she gazed up to look at herself in the mirror, her eyes darted behind her, finding Cameron reflected as well.
Winter screamed, spinning around and gasping.
“Calm down. I’m not an ax murderer.” He smiled.
“STOP doing that!” she yelled, still gasping.
He chuckled.
She only shook her head, tugging off her jacket and revealing a white, tight tank top. “What do you need?”
“You know what I need,” he stated, following her as she exited the bathroom.
She pulled the blood packs out from her pockets and shoved them into her fridge. “My blood?” she guessed.
He gave her a bored look.
She rolled her eyes before closing the fridge door. “I’ll go with you tomorrow.”
Cameron crossed his arms over his chest. “Then I’m staying here tonight.”
“Fine,” she waved at him dismissively before going to wash her hands in the sink, “there’s a couch.”
“I choose the bed,” he stated.
“Fine,” she muttered, “whatever. I’ll sleep on the couch, your majesty.”
“No,” Cameron stated, leaning casually against the wall, “you’re on the bed, too.”
She gave him a sharp look.
He threw his hands up innocently. “I won’t try anything, promise.”
She shook her head, closing her eyes tightly. “Fine, I’m taking a shower.”
Before he could respond, she walked off to her bathroom and closed the door behind her.
